There's a limit to how many people they can pull from any particular resort without creating a domino situation, and I don't think that piece of the equation gets easier as resorts across the country open more terrain. There's also the not-small detail of the impact on the scabs from a personal standpoint--they're getting pulled away from their friends and families, in some cases across the country. While I'd guess that at least a significant percentage, if not all, would prefer not to be in the position they're in and are doing so because it's better than being fired, that calculus may change with more time away from home.

Rumor is also that Vail is paying them $600/day and covering housing, which isn't exactly affordable on a longer term either (if that rumor is true).

Finally, I've seen references in the past to patrol staffing requirements associated with USFS leases; I have no idea how widespread that is, but it would put a hard floor on how few patrollers can cover any one resort (at least for those operating at least in part on USFS leases, which is a lot of them).
PCMR does not sit in on any significant amount of USFS land. It’s almost all privately owned.

Guess they just dont have enough to manage more openings.
At least there are a few interesting runs off iron and the bubble that opened up.
Yeah probably dont want to open up even more liability. Hopefully everything will be open soon…

Uhhhh Oooooo Scooby-doo!
Vail Resorts’ stock took a beating in open trading when the market opened again yesterday, January 2, after the New Year’s holiday. Following the ski patrol strike at Park City, Utah, the share price of the skiing behemoth fell -6.56% during market hours. The company’s share price closed at $175.16.

It's my turn to face the hellscape. Local kiddie clinics start tomorrow, so no escaping that.
Hopefully most of the tourists are already gone; I'm not in the mood to spend 20+ minutes in ski lines just lapping Saddleback. 😣

If today is any indication, there are still lots around. And it’s going to snow tomorrow. My money is on it being a shit show.

We won't even ski then if that's the case, just drop her off & go home. That's the one good thing about the EPIC app, it shows wait time at every lift.

Sort of. It maxes out at "20+ minutes" instead of honestly telling you precisely how bad the line is. Lol

Maybe? Maybe not? Seems the real issue is their lack of numbers. Hopefully more of the calvary arrives this weekend. It's not like uprooting people from all over North America can be done in an instant. I imagine this gets settled within a week though, because we're at MAD right now. PCMR is suffering badly, but at the same time the Union must know it's losing leverage after this holiday period's over, as well as PCRM eventually learning-curving their way our of a bit of this.
Still two more big holiday weeks to come, with the next one in just 2 weeks - they still have leverage.

If this continues for even another week, they (and everyone in town) will see their forthcoming reservations evaporate, adding further to the pressure.
