And they’re hurting all the other departments too. Lifties are losing hours, F&B is getting less tips, ski school is seeing cancellations, any customer facing position is dealing with irate customers. Obviously Vail can change things but the patrollers can as well. Lift mechanics and mountain safety are union as well thank God they arent on strike right now too or it would be an even bigger shitshow 😂

At this point Vail obviously doesn't give af or they would’ve caved. I don’t think the surrounding resorts will be too eager to higher anyone participating in the strike either. Short term the patrollers definitely have the leverage but that won’t last. Plus if they go a full two weeks Vail can evict them from housing and take away all their benefits. They already shut off their passes.
And there's the looming next big Holiday time, MLK Weekend, starting in just over 2 weeks...

Healthcare and I think full year employment are the others.

The healthcare stipend (i.e. free money) demand, because you rejected Vail's perfectly adequate healthcare plan, is absurd.

"We dont want to have to change healthcare plans every six months". Orlly? Then how bout' you just start adulting instead?

Literally 😂 get a fulltime job with benefits or accept the lifestyle you are choosing. I work for Vail year round and don’t have that problem, they have the same option.

And your healthcare is entirely fine. They're acting like you dont even get healthcare or it's atrocious or something.

It's just such a bother to take Vail's health plan for 6 months when I just have to change it out for my summer lifeguarding job in Malibu. Oh, The Horror. The injustice.

Some of that is due to low snow….
Um...not really.
9990 was open weeks ago...they have a hell of a lot of new snow.
Tombstone has been open all week..closed today.
Dream catcher area is closed..its buried in new snow.
Iron mountain..1 run open.
Every run has been poached..all buried.
Its...no one...to patrol it...........

9990 shut back down before the patrol strike started and it really shouldn’t have even opened. It was terrible coverage from what my friends who went up there said. But it definitely could be open again now, at the same time Ive seen it closed for days midwinter after a storm cycle so who knows. I think theyre also worried about people ducking off the top and dying in a slide, that would lead to some great publicity…

I maintain 9990 was only opened for those few days because it was the key Christmas go/no-go travel decision timeframe to cancel. If 9990 wasnt open there'd have been zero expert terrain. Who wouldn't cancel? Once everyone's plane was airborne, 9990 was closed again. lol
"You know what? That is a good idea! Thanks for your suggestion!"

This is what I mean. The timing of it opening / closing was highly sus.

And yeah, no way they open 9990 again until the strike's over given it's avy terrain. I'm not even sure we'll see McConkey's. The legal ramifications would not be pretty God forbid there's a slide.

That's the problem. It is not open so people will be tempted to poach it and run the significant risk of trouble.

We've had two avalanche fatalities in four days. The UAC forecast is pretty bad.
