I dont think anyone who makes a living at pc is going to live there...unless they have been there for more than 30 years.
They just want a better deal.
I commuted to nyc for 27 years...never wanted to or could afford to live there in anything but maybe a 2 bedroom.
Theres a 450 sq ft house in pc for sale...for 1 million.

Sundance is maybe 3 or 4 minutes closer to downtown Provo than to Main Street, Park City. It's a local ski area that pays less than Park City.

And your belief that $2 an hour is somehow going to help "affordability" so a ski patroller can live in Park City, is, in a word, laughable.

It's pretty clear you dont have any idea just how expensive it is in Park City, think: Manhattan in the mountains. It is entirely unaffordable, and $2 an hour from $21 to $23 isnt going to change that. That entire talking point was a red herring or a silly canard. It's a lie. It sucks, but we've arrived at the point where people who work in service in Park City cannot afford to live here. Any ski patroller making net $55,000 - $65,000 a year who somehow owns in Park City (unlikely) has lived here probably a minimum of a decade, probably more honestly. Even the rents on a very meager home are going to be $4,000 a month, charitably, more likely higher. That would eat up your entire salary. So the way I see it you either crowd together and get 3 or 4 ski patrol, liftees, etc... into a house and split the cost (which isnt exactly adulting), live in Vail housing, or do what is increasingly what most are doing - you live on the Wasatch Front, where house prices and rent are 1/2 the cost, and drive 30 to 45 minutes up Parley's to work.

There are some exceptions, for instance, I know a very nice family who do live in Park City, Dad's a professional full-time yearly waiter on Main Street, Mom's a full-time yearly waitress at a resort. Two kids. They live in a townhouse by the outlets, because it's all they can afford. They used to live in a townhouse at Canyons, but got priced out (rent increase) last year. A very common tale. And not exclusive to Park City, but much ski mountain real estate all over America sadly.

They don’t have to live in park city. It is only a 50 minute commute from Sandy or even closer to other places in SLC

At least you can find housing. In VT we where the only house for sale in our area..which is why it sold in 1 hour.
They are building like crazy everywhere i look.

True. But at least it's still possible for 2 adults into their careers to find something non-dumpish on the Front that's "affordable" (YOMV re: that term) on middle-class wages.

The people who are completely screwed are the youth. You cant even get a crappy, boxy, starter home someplace like Lehi for $500,000. I think the kids are gonna' start leaving, at least the non-LDS ones.

I think the damage has been done. Much will be forgiven by many once the mountain opens fully again. But a lot of people who came for the holidays will never go back to PC and many will never return to Utah. And now the corporate model they use is being scrutinized which will not help Ikon either. Wait until the next strike elsewhere.

When the final tale unfolds, this will not end well.

I, too, have heard a fair number of folks say that they will not return to PC or Utah. Selfishly, not coming back to UT is good for me. I've also been seeing and hearing online and on the mountain the last few weeks or so that word is getting out that Utah is getting too crowded. Ski Utah, Alterra, and Vail have pretty much overpromoted the state. And full disclosure: I am a former corporate member of Ski Utah. I don't miss those events as you could cut the douchiness with a knife.
