Man that really stinks, does anyone know if they got the lift up and running?
Not according to their web page. They indicated that "substantial progress was made" and they invited folks to hike/skin up the hill. Now that's a first! I'll bet they had every man, woman and child helping to install the new drive shaft. I don't know anything about lifts, but I wonder if they had to take the whole cable off.

I would have no objection if they put a tin cup out front.

Drove by there around 12:30 this afternoon and it was NOT running. They had the little tubing lift going, but that was the extent of the action at Whaleback.

It appears that just crossing fingers and praying didn't fix the chairlift. next it's on to Plan B: hire a mechanic

Is this season shaping up to be worse than normal for lift problems in the NE? Anyone keep data on this sort of thing? Offhand I can think of/find threads here re:

-- Loon gondi deropement 12/16
-- SR Barker evac 12/17
-- late opening for Wachusett's Minuteman lift
-- Sunapee bearing failure, kid falls from chair
-- now Whaleback

I'm excluding things like the power failure that shut Wildcat for close to a week, Tenney's issues and the mechanical stops that turned one of my rides on the Forerunner Quad at Stowe into more than a half-hour slog on 12/7 ...

I agree, this is pretty scary. Man, they get some decent snow, then this kind of stuff happens.

Sounds almost like a curse of "global warming". ;) Someone trying to tell us something???

I have a small business where we perform emergency repairs on water supply systems. When something causes us to miss a valuable call it really hurts. The ski industry is similar: the window of opportunity to make money is fairly small and they are already weeks behind. Of course they can't open with a questionable lift either. If they make it this year, I'll go there just out of principle. Jeezum.

This was the front of their site at 1:30. They need good vibes sent their way. It's a shame to see an area struggle, especially this year.

Anyone heard an update on the lift repair? Drove by today on the way to Sunapee (who has their own lift issues). Really stinks! Was looking forward to doing some nite skiing midweek. Hope they get things running soon.
