My friend Bobby and I have tried to ski Jay Peak twice. Once about ten years ago, and last winter in February. The first time we were "day tripping" from Newport (I think) VT where we had stayed at a motel with the intention of skiing Jay. After making us hang around for an hour and a half, they decided not to open due to high winds. This past winter we booked a two night ski/stay package. When we woke up, the temps were around -14 Fahrenheit. They refused to open anything other than a couple of Green runs. After repeatedly telling us that they would open "in a little while" we got PO'd and made them refund the second night, and credit the first night to a "future stay." We then bailed and headed south to Killington where we found a very good deal on the access road and had great skiing for the next day and a half! Maybe this year?

New places on the list for me this year: Sugarbush (whenever I get a chance to try it this winter), Ascutney (New Year's long weekend), and Winter Park (week in March). Other than that, I got my ASC bronze pass this year, so I'll probably be at Killington/Pico most of the time.

I may try to do a Sugarbush/Mad River Glen visit this season. Does anyone know if there is shuttle service between the two?

I know when we went up there in March there was a bus service that shuttled between the 2 Sugarbush peaks and MRG... It actually would pick up at quite a few of the motels/lodgings and bring you to the ski areas, too.

I would like to hit Butternut, Jiminy, and Loon this year. Loon will have to be an overnighter, though...too far for a day trip. Maybe Okemo, too... My husband seems to like that one.

If you liked MRG, you should really try Berkshire East this season. Route 8 to 8A is an easy route from Torrington; probably 1:45 tops.

Since Saddleback is in my back yard now....first stop.

I to have tried to ski Jay and have 4 free passes for our efforts. Mountain never opens when we are there. Hmmm...Nice accomadations though!

Stowe. Going back to celebrate our anniversary at Smuggs (married there 2 years ago on skis) and plan on skiing Stowe.

Okay out of money now. No passes for us! :cry:

I think you recommended them last season, too?? I've read the trip reports and they definitely sound interesting. I think they were on my list for last season... It was either the Beast or Jiminy that I was afraid didn't have enough terrain that I thought I could ski last season, so I never went; I can't remember which. I ended the season well, though, so I'm hoping to try some more ambitious stuff this winter.

I've got my tickets to go to Sun Peaks, BC this winter. I'm hopeful that it'll be just right for a family with a beginner 7-year-old, ann eternal intermediate mom, and a pretty capable dad.

After reading the posts here, I need to add Cannon and Saddleback. Stop posting, my list is getting too long!

I'm going to add Sugarbush and Cannon to my "hope to ski" list. So, let's see that makes
  • Burke
  • Cannon
  • Magic
  • MRG
  • Sugarbush
  • Sunapee
Tall order. Cannon is already planned and a possible MRG/Sugarbush weekend is in the works...

In addition to getting back to smaller areas like Pats and Crotched, I'd like to take the central NH tour this season:
* Gunstock
* Sunapee
* Tenney
* Waterville
* Ragged (OK, been there once, but I'd like to go again)

I'd like to get to one area in VT, but I'm not sure what areas would make for a reasonable day trip so I haven't decided yet.

Of course, getting to all of these areas would mean a lot more trips than I could get into one season, but I'm willing to give it a shot :D

Well, any visits to new ski areas this season are over for me. Out of my desired list above, I skied three new ski areas this season:
  • Magic
  • MRG
  • Sugarbush
Not bad, but I'm disappointed I didn't get to Cannon or Sunapee. Those two along with Burke will definitely be on the list next season. I did revisit a few areas this season that I haven't skied much in the past few years including Catamount (last visited '01/'02), Hunter (last visited December '02), Sundown (it's probably been 9 or 10 seasons since I skied there). Off to revisit Sugarloaf tomorrow so I'm psyched for that!

What new areas did you ski this year?

I have a lot of new areas to add to my list, thanks in large part, to all of your advice here in AZ. Here is my list so far:

  • Loon Mountain
    Nashoba Valley (with AZer's)
    Berkshire East (with AZer's)
    Ski Ward
    Wachusett (with RSNer's/AZer's)

Weather permitting, Waterville is on the list for this weekend.
