You don't have to drive when you could be skiing. I drive before first chair or after last chair. If that means getting up 3 am, so be it.

For me to catch first chair where I ski (7:30) I need to leave by 7:20 that includes parking, putting boots on and walking to the chair. That's kinda why I said what I did. My hill is only 2 minutes a way so it's real hard for me to drive any distance when I don't have to. Don't get me wrong, I do, but not until it's worth the trip. ie: lots-o-snow, terrain, holidays over, etc....

How on earth is vertical not part of this poll? It should be the first choice?!?!?!

Hmmm...well... If one mountain had 100 vert feet and the one next door had 2000, which would you pick?!?!? How many people here would pick Woodbury over almost anywhere else? Vertical is pretty darn important! I also think night skiing should have been seperate.

Oh, wait now, I know why it isn't a choice. Greg started this whole poll in order to show terrain is more important than lifts, snowmaking or infrastructure. It's like asking if you like Pepsi, or any other bevearage vs. Coke. When Pepsi wins because it's all encompassing, you go ha ha ha. Lame.

I picked all the popular ones + grooming and Other infrastructure (night)

Without groomers the selection of terrain and time it's available shrinks way too much for me around here. I'd rather go ride the groomed than not go or pick my way down breakable crust/ice bare spots. When there's snow grooming falls right off that list :snow:

There are plenty of other reasons not to pick Woodbury over anywhere else besides vert.

I'd choose 750 feet of steep vert with knee deep snow and great terrain over 3000 feet vert of blue ice, and straight, bland trails in a heart beat, everytime. There's a minimum amount of vertical I'd like to see, but it's interwoven typically with other aspects of the mountain, most notably terrain, already on the list.

I'd probably pick the 2000ft one. But, once you get above about 750-1k feet or so, it doesn't really matter that much, and I'd pick the place that is better in one of the things that is important to me, such as terrain, or snow.

Hunter has 1600ft of vertical, Okemo has 2200ft of vertical.....I'll pick Hunter every time.

You wonder why people don't like you...

I don't think the point of the poll was to prove someone right or wrong at all, more just to see what our opinions are, and go from there.

Well....if they were right next door obviously I would go to the hill w/ more vert. Guess that's why I chose proximity for ME being my #1 factor.

I don't think the point of the poll was to prove someone right or wrong at all, more just to see what our opinions are, and go from there.

First, the people don't like you take is mean spirited and lame.

Second, roll call threads aren't meant to prove anyone right or wrong. They are mindless pleasantries like saying “Isn’t it nice out today?”. IMO, there purpose is good in theory because everyone regardless of skiin'riding knowledge can participate. Threads like “What do you do with your poles on a chairlift?” Who cares, but why not?

Third. I like when someone tries to prove me wrong. Sometimes they do, but at least they make me think and defend my position.

I see your "somewhere, someone is discussing Whiteface" detector is working well, and with considerable range, HPD... :) I'm impressed.

I voted terrain and snow. How come no continous vert. choice. People always say that vert. isn't everything. That's true, but no one thing is everything and vert is something. So there.

I assumed vert (continuous or otherwise) was part of terrain, but I could see it being a separate category.

I chose terrain, proximity, snowmaking and value

Terrain is a no brainer
Proximity is very important as I'm a day trip skier these days
Snowmaking is a BIG concern of mine now that I don't live in Northern VT
Value is important to me as well. I'm not poor, but don't have megabucks either. So, if I'm not scoring a deal, it better be a good pow day if I'm spending $60+ on a lift ticket.

First, the people don't like you take is mean spirited and lame.

Considering the way he phrased it (to make sure it insulted greg), and how many complaints he's made about people disagreeing with him/not liking him, I thought it was deserved.

Not sure if you intended to or not, but I believe you just reinforced what I said.
