I haven't heard anything about this for a while.

I don't know though, it may be a good move since New Yorkers are less likely to drive all the way to New Hampshire. ;)

(Just kidding New Yorkers! Take no offense!)

Let 'em move and realize that they have gained nothing. They are going to pay higher property taxes.

They are also shortsighted when they moan that they get nothing from the state. That Killington Access Road: built and paid for by the State of Vermont for the EXPRESSED purpose of building the ski area. And the mountain? Those land arrangements were made by the State as well. Had there been no VT, there would be no Killington, no business, no homes, nadda. Just a lot of trees.

It's interesting how they want the state to do X,Y,Z for them but they don't want to pay for it. I guess they forgot about who really built Killingotn--then again, all of the people who live in Killington are out-of-staters who moan about everything. :dunce:

Vermont's property tax is way messed up. Mine have trippled since act 60. If Dover were to join NH my overall tax burden would be significantly less. Also the sociallists here are driving health care costs through the roof and if they get thier way and push universal health care on us I don't want to even think what will happen to our tax burden.

I take it that you live in a "Gold Town?" My family lives in the middle of nowhere and have always had very high property taxes due to the committment of the town to provide good schooling. Only recently, through Act 60, have things eased.

There are other things that do drive health care costs.

I would like to know where the gold is so I might be able to get some. Our school budget has been cut to the bone and still the taxes sky rocket every year. Yet Brattleboro can spend 90 million to rebuild a forty year old school where wilmington can't put a new roof on thier school due to the tax effects (3 million for bandaid repairs to a 120 year old building and 20 million to the state).

The term "Gold Town" refers to those towns that have a lot of expensive property that could potentially create tax revenue for the town. For example, Stowe's schools had great programs since they had the resort and all of that tax base while Sheffield, VT has about 1500 or so people and no industry amd their school had no gym for the kids as well as substandard programs due to lack of $$$. Act 60 is supposed to theoretically distribute the wealth so to say.
