HAHA!!! Ummm.. No... I would like to see him face to face with my brother someday.. He's pretty peaceful but didn't take kindly to SS's disrespectful shenanigans towards me while he was serving in Iraq...

but I digress..
KMart is just not worth the trip for me now that I snowboard... I'd rather drive the extra to the Bush now that i live a little closer...
The only reason I'm pushing to get back is I have friends that live there... Really need to touch base next season..

Yep you should.

My bump story is pretty nonexistent. I tried the edges of the bumps a few times this winter because it was what someone else I know was really interested in and I wanted to share that interest. I'm not ready for them. Maybe next year... maybe never. They intrigue me, but I lost too much of this season because I was trying to do more than I was capable of for the wrong reasons. Won't happen again.

I grew up skiing at King Ridge (http://www.nelsap.org/nh/kingridge.html). It was long before terrain parks, and catching air of any kind would result in loss of pass. Every trail was groomed flat.

Once I got my license I would head up to Killington whenever I could (which wasn't very often). I remember how cool it was to see Donna Weinbrecht and Chuck Martin up there ripping the spring bumps.

I spent six winters in Colorado after high school, but didn't ski bumps too often. I was more into jumping off of stuff. I would abuse myself in the bumps every once in a while, but was definitely lacking in technique.

Over the past 14 years I have been back in New England, hacking around in the bumps.

Why do I love it? It's one of those things that cannot be mastered (at least not by me). There is always more to learn. Sure I'd like to be skiing steeps and dropping cliffs into deep powder, but that's tough to find around here.

To me there aren't many things more satisfying than skiing a clean line. When it all comes together. Turns, speed, snow contact, body position. Whatever level you are at, you can get that feeling. It may not look pretty, but it sure feels good.

Wait a minute, what were we talking about here?

Well I got interested in bumps a few seasons ago during a spring trip. Seemed the spring slush gave me the extra time to turn and kept my speed down. To end the season linking bumps together turn after turn had me thinking that I was starting to get the hang of this elusive bump thing, or so I though. The entire off-season I'm thinking that I turned a corner, and will pick-up where I left off next season,...wrong! Next season rolls around and I can't wait to get back to the bumps and start right back up. Only one problem, they're cold, they're icy, and slick as shit. After the cold hard slap in the face of reality sinks in, I realize I have a long way to go. Since I'm only able to go skiing 5-6 times a year, I'm thinking this may take even longer than thought. Then I read about a little ski hill with a seeded bump run only 1-2 hours away. Well this might speed things up a bit I'm thinking. I was able to get there twice this season, and probably skied 15-20 bump runs each time. More bump runs than I'd skied in my whole life up to that point. It was great. Once I saw video of my self through the bumps, it became obvious to me why I was sucking so bad in the bumps. I read Dan Depetrio's bump book, and cut down an old set of poles, but didn't get back up there before the season ended for me. Looking forward to next season though!

Uhm...another curse of the bump skier - underestimating their skill and feeling like they are skiing worse than they actually look. I think you rip the bumps pretty damn good, Bill...

Bumps runs where always my nemesis, just couldn't get them. One day I decided that if I was going to be a better skier and be able to handle the steep stuff I would have to get serious about this. I started practicing whenever I could. I used to avoid these runs but now seeked them out. This year at Panorama I found myself in bump heaven, they where perfect, no or very little ice and consistant conditions day after day. The runs where incredibly long, 3 times longer than anything on this coast due to the 4000 vertical. I think I was able to improve a lot on that trip. My final exam this season was at Hunter with one of the toughest examiners I know...Jim G with his assistant examiner Karl. Jim said he couldn't believe that I kept up with them all day, didn't even take a break. A milestone for me!!

Well thanks Greg, but good isn't good enough for me! No doubt about it, I've got the fever now. It's like when you feel you start to get the hang of something, and you know that you can really dial it in, if you could only get more practice at it. That's where I feel I am, on the cusp of something good. I'll be back. Next year I will definitely try and make the bump comp too. This year the whole family was sick with various strains of flu for the entire month of March!

Out of my 70 days of skiing this season I had 3 days of bump skiing. Hopefully next season I'm able to get that percentage even lower...:flame:

Don't worry. You ski bumps so slowly it won't even effect you.:flame:

Remind me again.....after seeing your out of control form, wasn't it JimG. that said to you that "sometimes you need to ski slower to ski faster."?

 ;)

JimG is just jealous since he is a decrepit old fart who turns too often. Deep inside he looks up to skiers like 2knees and I.

BTW, have fun being in "off season mode". I'm going skiing tomorrow.

Have fun. I hope you find some better conditions than you did up on Rime at Killington in early November.

What a waste of time that must've been...

Decrepit old fart huh?

And who was it again who was barfing and wiping out all over the place at Hunter?

Oh yeah, you.

You should be so lucky to be as decrepit as me.

Lets see, there are two different reasons why I could have got sick.

1) I got food poisoning from the filthy, over priced food served at Hunter. Or...

2) One of you nasty New Yorkers gave me one of your many diseases. Probably SARS or something. Disgusting group of people...

Now us Massholes we're a fine group of polite, well-spoken, healthy people. Everyone should try to be like us...

My one trip to New York was the only time I got sick in the past 2 years. Coincidence, I think not.

Let me sum it up for you...

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Cause nobody else was skipuking.
