A "real" skier is one who has fun no matter what.
Real skiers wouldn't even respond to this post! I'm a faux skier.
The arguementative side of me wants to define the "real" skier as one who can seemlessly transition from one surface to the next in variable terrain types easily with good speed and technical form. This "real" skier may not be the best at any one aspect of skiing, but doesn't have one true weak facet of their skiing :argue:
I think the Dr jeckyl side of DrJeff summed it up best for me in terms of skill set...but mind set is a different story.
I don't buy into the notion that "real" skiers don't have real jobs, ski 100+ days a year, live in a cardboard box, hibernate all summer, eat dirt, never ride a chairlift, only drink yak piss beer, and don't own more than what will fit into their BC pack. There are too many varieties of "real" skiers out there to boil it down to one pigeon holed stereotype.
the current stage for you must be the growing up one .. Do you think you will ever get through it?
+2real skiers dont give a crap who real skiers are...
that explains why you can only ski seeded bumps, real skiers ski real bumps . . .
Yeah, I wasn't looking forward to that first trip back, but talking to Barb Green helped afterwards.I agree..real skiers don't say the skiing sucks...real skiers are always psyched to ski..the only time I wasn't psyched to ski was after we were chased out of Blue but that wore off after my meeting with management..
+1 I often will take a run down a easy trail with someone I shared a lift ride with just to ski one run with themReal Skiers..will take time out to ski with lesser skilled skiers and riders and answer their skiing questions..serve as a mentor to newer skiers and riders for the good of the sport and the joy of seeing others enjoy skiing..
everyday....sometimes even dream about it at nightReal Skiers think about skiing everyday of their lives
yeah!!!!Real skiers can have fun on any ski in any conditions...race skis in deep powder..powder skis on icy hardpack..it's about skiing not the geat but real skiers like steezy gear but it's the skier that makes the gear shred the gnar..
I have a whole folder of ski favorites. That folder has 9 sub folders.Real Skiers have at least 5 ski sites in their favorites...unless they are so real that they live in a yurt with no internet..
I'll add more later..cool summertime thread!!!!
1. drink PBR like its water

3. have smelly boots and gloves
4. uses duck tape on the reg
5. live by the motto "first chair, last call"
6. counts their vert............in their head!
7. does not own an SUV
8. only using the singles line
9. does the shuffle before getting in the gondi
10. SHREDS THE GNAR!

I fail most of these.
1 - I could if challenged, but prefer an IPA, but I've been known to slam my fair share of swill too though.
2 - Would if I could. Family duties and a job don't really allow for it. Gotta plan my days in advance.
3 - Sometimes. I try to alleviate it as much as possible by letting them dry out when not in use though.
4 - No duct tape here.
5 - First chairs? Sometimes. Last call? Never anymore.
6 - I never track vert. Tracking days is lame enough.
7 - We own two.
8 - Will use the singles line if appropriate, but don't always have to.
9 - Not sure I get this one.
10 - Not sure whether seeded bumps are considered gnar....cuz remember, that's all I ski.
Yep. I'm a fake skier.
And I'm okay with that.
Can a snowboarder be a real skier?
I am not a real skier, at least not according to Jay Peak. I expect wireless internet where i am staying.
