Belle is 100% open. Got out 9:15 and immediately hit Dreamcatcher and then Tomahawk lift line from the top. That was a good move as the snow was pristene and there were none of the gapers that flooded those 2 areas later on. Skied everything until about 2:30. Things got bumped up and there was a lot of traffic having all kinds of issues with the conditions at that point so I called it a day. One of the busiest days at Belle I can remember and there were no kids racing, the usual reason it gets so busy. Heading back tomorrow, then K on tap for Wed Thurs.

Great weekend!

Saw the us ski team at the vermont open, jets dogfighting, and a paraglider on Friday.

Some friends invited us to the Hermitage on Sat and got to revisit good ol’ haystack, with some serious white glove treatment. Skiing a Saturday alone on trails is fine living.

Enjoyed another sunny day today, didn’t see much of the competition. 6DDCC6F4-1435-47CA-B4A8-BD08D20360A0.jpeg

powder days at places that dont get powder days rule. no one knows how to ski. they flail around and quit by noon and you largely have the place to yourself.

i always want to try taos but i plan far in advance and i feel like its such a dice roll on conditions. looks great.
Some of the weather people I follow are calling for a moderate El Nino next season. Usually indicates an active southern jet. Places like Taos, Telluride, Wolf Creek tend to thrive during Nino's.

At 38 days for the season. Wrapped up my local season with 30 days at the home bump in the Pocono's and now move on to my travel (or Ikon season as that's what I'll ski on now till close). Thursday night flight to Denver and won't be coming home till April.

It was raining in Phoenicia but heavy wet snow in Pine Hill and snow on Highmount until about 1:30. The 4" down skied great. The trees which had been murdered over the weekend were full of snow. And the place was empty. It was a great day. Skied everything including the trees in Cathedral Brook.

Forgot about the snowmaking pipe in the upper part of Belleayre glade. Wound up doing an inadvertent rail grind for about 10 feet in there but never lost my balance or line so it looked planned. Yikes!

Tough ski day this morning with thick fog and variable snow conditions from the sun beating on the trails the day before. It did snow an inch or two overnight which helped. Best skiing was off the Sublette and Thunder Chair on the more northern facing trails. Back to reality tomorrow.

#71 today at loon with three ragged race girls and a coach. Never hit loon right until today. Bucksaw was probably best. North and gondola on wind hold. Heard form other coaches that ragged was all time. With any luck, school will be closed tomorrow and we can find out first hand.

Saturday March 18th post rain and freeze but then sunny and low 30's, a situation where the Sun Mountain rules. Beautiful day (well, after 11am) of soft carve-able snow.

40) 03/18/23 - Sunday River, ME - Some good decision making and flexible planning really saved the weekend. I watched the radar all day Friday while working - vermont green, maine blue. That was enough for me. 2.5 hours from WRJ in the morning. Easy. Rewarded with spectacular spring skiing.

41) 03/19/23 - Killington, VT - fearing for the worst after awful reports out of vt on Saturday, I was pleased to see clear signs of fresh snow as I drove in from the east thru Woodstock and bridgewater. Parked at lower skyeship with my trunk backed up to the snow - was nice to ski to my car but I dunno if I’d park down there again. Anyway, I found 2” of fresh light perfect powder on top of the shit crust, and no people really. No lines. Fresh snow every run. The firm base underneath was 3 feet of new snow so no worries of rocks and shit. Skied most marked woods. Avoided Julio area but lower angle was game on. Good eastern skiing in my opinion. Impressive snowmaking on superstar and the output was dry enough to ski twice even tho I looked like a popsicle when I was done

Lots of snow around but the freeze thaw cycles lately make it a task to find where the snow is soft and fun to ski. On this day the trails on the western side were good but firm. The eastern side was a bit warmer and the bumps and trees were great. Turned out to be a good day. Top of Tomahawk lift line was great but it got pummeled and was worn out by day's end.

Heading back tomorrow.
