Day 34 at Solitude, Ut. We're having a heck of a snowy week.
We're heading out there for some spring skiing in about 10 days. So cut that crap out!

Looks like all the northern places that are typically iffy this time of year will be open. Very excited, but first need to hit some small NY places this weekend.

Wow a classic spring day, bluebird and 50 degrees. Pretty much still 100% open. Trees and bumps really good. Not sure I'll see this much natural terrain open next time I get to Belle late next week. K up next.

Kind of a tough day at Sugarloaf. Snow was quite firm and icy from the thaw-refreeze the night before. Best trails were Haulback and Ramdown as they got a late groom that morning. The good news is Sugarloaf has a very deep snowpack. Should be a great April and potentially beyond once the spring weather comes in.

I'll bet there's more to that story!
I came within a whisker of going up to Alta/Bird on March 24 with a friend. I bailed at 730 AM, had some home improvement stuff to do and it just seemed like it was going to be a sketchy day. He later told me he had a 12+ hour day. Lined up at mouth of LCC at 845am, got home at 9pm. 2.5 hrs skiing, 5 hrs driving, 4.5 hours interlodged in Albion (from approx 215pm to 645pm). At least he got 2.5 hours of great powder skiing - NOT. Viz was impossible, supreme closed all day, heavy winds and mild frostbite.o_O

I was going to go with a buddy from 4-9pm. He was coming from Davis County and we decided not to do it. BCC closed from like 1-3:30pm. I decided to go for the evening and left my house at about 4:30pm. It took 2 hours to get to Brighton. Snow was nice, it was cold, a bit brisk. Skied 2.5 hours. Traffic up was a disaster--rental cars and folks with all seasonal tires spinning out and stopping cars. Folks arriving at Brighton and instead of pulling into the lot the stopped in the road or looped around, tying up traffic. Lots and lots of pissed off folks on the lifts. But it was skiing, the snow was good, and I was batching it so....

Great day! About 6” fell overnight and everything was skiing great. Managed to get 2nd chair on Rangeley and Kennebago netting me first tracks on Peachy’s and the Kennebago liftline. From there went Gov, Mule, Dark Wizard, and Casablanca with only a few tracks to that point. Never more than a 3 minute wait for the summit and Rangeley was ski-on all day. 359E587D-842B-4A25-8D7C-01678408A822.png4DC938C5-DE95-4AC7-B351-341077683671.pngF3E4BE02-1CD2-4DE8-9319-9E38F9CE38DB.jpeg3110FD81-64D4-4A44-8564-4053D9BC09F1.jpeg4D32331E-AF2A-47D0-BD80-D3E9A3155E0F.jpeg527A71E0-5145-4ED2-A247-E1E2D941D07A.jpeg83954937-5FCD-4E9E-A364-939A29A6A13F.jpeg294F5F8F-EEBE-44AB-8DF1-3B957632CAE4.jpeg

43) 03/26/23 - Sunday River, ME - 3-5" of new snow made the place ski huge. Just run after run of untracked tree skiing. No people, so no lines, and I was basically ski on on the 8-pack. I still hate that lift but it was serving me 1400 vertical of beautiful powder tree skiing at a very nice rate. Such a nice rate that by the time the snow started getting sticky at 12 PM i had 24k of powder tree skiing down and was ready to call it. a quick stop in portland at a dispensary, a car wash, and lunch, and then flew home. hit my couch at 7:45 PM.

I'm off this coming weekend. have a work thing. planning on maine/nh over easter. i have good Friday off work.

Saddleback was awesome yesterday. Didn't get first tracks, but it didn't matter. They clearly put a lot of investment in customer service; they had mountain ambassadors all over the place giving guidance and suggestions about where to ski, as well as people working the ticket line helping with their (surprisingly complicated) Indy Pass redemption process. And just a lovely, friendly place with some great terrain. Only complaint is the trail map had some annoying inaccuracies.

Good spring skiing with my oldest son David today. Bumps have been skied in and they were outstanding on Belleayre Run top to bottom, Winnisook, and especially Yahoo. Trees still open but getting thin in spots. Winnisook trees were good, Belleayre glade still open from the top. K up next Wed Thurs.

Still stuck at 8 days after March, which was a big bummer to miss. Moving into the new house has been hell for the past month, but finally getting to the end of that. Can't get any time off at work until mid April so I'm hoping some of the March base sticks around and I can get a couple more good days in before we get down to Superstar season.

Only have used Ikon 4 times and Indy 3 times so they both made money on me for the 2nd year in a row. Already renewed Indy for next year which was a no brainer, but the $1100 for an Ikon that I've used a combined 10 times the last two years will take some thought. I have to imagine next year will be more normal for me days wise though.

Killington was great today. Amazing what 3" can do! Spent all day skiing big swaths of untouched snow. Place was empty, hardly any other skiers. Glad I'll be here skiing tomorrow too.

Started out as a bluebird day. Mountain was quite empty and there was a few inches of new snow from yesterday which skied well on the natural trails, especially on the Mittersill side. Overall good day before the rain tomorrow. IMG_1178.jpegIMG_1184.jpegIMG_1197.png
