ASC should really learn to proof read its own Press Releases.... I mean.... really. I know the sale isn't 100% complete... but still?

LOL Steve, good help is truly hard to find and retain, especially at times like these.

I have to hand it to the process, boyneUSA was NEVER mentioned locally, so they skated totally under the radar and made their deal without a leak or a mention.

Bring 'em on, their next test is a season pass sale announcement, then snowguns in October.

Boyne had been mentioned by folks at Sugarloaf on their forum, but no one took it seriously.

Admittedly... I WAS 100% WRONG. I thought it would be Otten and Cook. Perhaps they did, too. :snow:

Boyne has a great history of innovation and resort development. I think both resorts are in really good hands with this!

Well, at least the two ME resorts are going to the same owners. There's hope for a combined pass. Now, bring out the pass prices and let's see how customer friendly they can get.

sorry to open old wounds, but SR and SL historically attracted totally different clientele until ASC paired them together and offered the amazing A41, cheap.

IF your idea of customer friendly and and mine don't see eye-to eye, its the old history in the way.

Ya just can't maintain excellence when you eliminate competition, Sam Walton withstanding.

You can eliminate competition with a cheap product, but then you are destined to maintain the cheap product's market base with less money.

Will be an interesting few years in NE as the market base adjusts.

Don't be sorry. I know all about the rivalry. One pass between the 2 mountains works for me for purely personal reasons -- Loaf has always been my all-time favorite and River has has grown on me (and the li'l snowmonster) during this past season. Met some really great folks too at the River and that is a definite plus on where to ski.

I'm not going to debate on whether this 2-for-1 arrangement is good for the ski industry in Maine. Let's just hope for the best.

SRO, spill the beans on Boyne. What did we get ourselves into?

Just the typical resort run by out of state corporation employee stuff. Back in the RSN days alot of employees who worked at Big Sky posted that they didn't care much for Boyne, some went over to MB.

It might end up working out great for the skiers but I think the era of cheap passes is over but a combined SR/SL would be welcomed by alot of people in the Portland area, like my stepson and all his friends. As it was mentioned it all depends on the price.

If I was a SR/SL skier I would be glad just to get this sale thing done and now get ready to usher in a new era in the ownership of these resorts.

I would be interested in knowing what Otten/ASC originally paid for SR and SL. I realize SR was nothing like it is today but the Loaf, not so much.

The reported numbers for the Bush was that ASC puchased it for 12m and invested 30m in new lifts, snowmaking and sold it to SV for 8m plus 2m debt. That's a huge diference between what ASC got for the Bush and SR/SL. deal.

I am kind of shocked and disappointed myself, thought the Otten/Cook/LL Bean group was a great fit. There were plenty of press alluding to this deal including the article about Warren Cook going to the local town officials and basically telling them he was considering buying back the Loaf.

Maybe they backed out of the Otten/Cook/LL Bean and took a sweeter offer from Boyne. Remember this is the same ASC that backed out of the Steamboat deal with the Muellers/Triple Peaks at pretty much the last second(they sued ASC twice and lost both times) and backed out of a deal late in the process when a group of MRV locals, after ASC put in on the market, were buying the Sugarbush Inn, Conference Center/Townhomes and the Sugarbush Golf Club back in 1999/2000.

I'm kind of shocked and disappointed. Hope this isn't what we're in for:

http://www.skicrystal.com/1730.html

Don't knock Crystal it is a great place to ski. But unlike other places it is really a commuter mountain. Crystal is located in the middle of a Park and there is NOTHING build up around the mountain.

People who ski there really commute an hour from Seattle for day trips. In fact they only sell single day passes. Skiing there is in the middle of nowhere and you really can't compare what is done there to other mountains.

That said Boyne has done a great building new lifts and expanding the skiable terrain there.

at last!!!!!!!!! it's always better when they're together.

i hope they don't price me out. they need to realize that the local crowd won't be happy about $$$ passes (i know otten pulled it off in the 90's). saddleback is a legit candidate now.

The sale of both SR and SL to the same company is probably good for skiers of those resorts. I have to believe that the new owners will have to offer a joint pass for both resorts.
