Belleayre's Roaring Brook is Now Open

Finally Belleayre's popular intermediate run Roaring Brook is now open from the top of the mountain. Talk about a slow start this year. Belleayre now has two intermediate runs from the top opened Roaring Brook and Onondaga/HorshoePass .

Any bets if Deer Run ever opens this year ?

Will mother nature provide any help to the ski areas this year?

Looks like they made snow on Dot Nebel so maybe that will be open from the top this weekend.

There used to be a PDF that you could download but it isn't there anymore.

They might pick up around 4+ inches, and then it gets very cold

I found a pdf elsewhere and printed it 11x17 on a good color printer and still can't read some of the trail names. I think I have an actual map from the area at home, must remember to get it out. I'm trying to visualize what's open in order to decide whether to go there.

I am not sure why they make it so difficult to download a pdf of the trail map. Basically, there are two black diamonds open from the top. Wanatuska is a groomer and Onteora has bumps. They are both located in the middle of the mountain between the the Super Chief quad and the Lift 7. There are two blue trails open from the top, Roaring Brook and Onandaga. Both are on the left side of the trail map. Last week, they opened Dot Nebel from mid-station (right side of the trail map). This is a nice, wide, groomed trail. Currently, you have to take the shuttle over the the Tomahawk lift, but you can ski back. The website shows they are making snow on Tomahawk crossing and the top of Dot Nebel, so hopefully the whole trail will be open by the weekend and shuttle service won't be necessary.

My wife and kids are in a season-long program, so we are there every weekend. I am not sure I would go there this weekend if not for these ski programs. So far this year conditions have been pretty good on the limited terrain and there have been no lift lines. If we get a bit of snow conditions might be even better, but trails may be crowded due to the the holiday weekend and limited terrain.

I predict the following weekend scenario for good skiers skiing above Overlook lodge -

• Offloading Superchief, there will be groomed Roaring Brook, Onondaga, Horseshoe Pass, Wanatuska, and "Area 15" terrain park with a few jumps.
• Offloading Lift 7 top there will be Onteora with bumps.
• Offloading Lift 7 from mid there will be Onteora, Mohawk, and Utsayantha (closed for race program only in AM), and Tomahawk Crossing for access to Tomahawk lift.
• Offloading Tomahawk lift from top and mid for Dot Nebel (might be half closed for race training in AM), with Expressway open to return to Lift 7 and Overlook Lodge.

PS: I can't believe they are not blowing lower Yahoo yet! The guns were set up for it last weekend, and there are races scheduled soon. Can't trust the web site's trail conditions report for "snowmaking" indicators, because they don't really update it very often.

They finally updated the trail map page on the website. It now has the 2012 map and you can open it as a pdf, though it is still hard to read the names
