Does anybody think this could be their best season ever??? What a great start for the northeast and more snow and cold in the forcast. There's going to be alot of available terrain open for the holidays..things are good...Could this be your best season ever? Could this be the best season ever for the east? Keep posting stoke and maybe January will be snowy and the thaw will take a season off..Maybe Al Gore is full of crap, Could 2008 be another year without a summer like 1816?? I hope..and the plow guys will make hella lott..Holla

well i wouldn't consider Al Gore wrong about global warming, but it sure is colder than normal. This is a great start to the ski season and i love it. just as a little fact, there are projections that NY will get colder due to global warming. Wierd i know

Since this is only my second full season after 20 years of not skiing it's been great so far, hopefully there is no big thaw at some point. If the late season is like last season's late season it will be epic.:spread:

Well, hopefully this will be a great season (sure started out that way!)

Al and the overwhelming bulk of climatologists are talking about long term trends, not today vs. yesterday, so even if the earth is heating up at a very fast rate (very fast for something the size of a planet anyway) -- and there seems to be little real doubt that this is what is happening -- we can still expect enough year-to-year variation that epic seasons will not be out of the question for quite some time.

I believe 02/03 (could be off a year) got off to a great early start. But this is certainly a great way to start the season

I'm trying to take it day by day and not think too far ahead, but so far this season has been off to a great start. The industry really needed a strong Christmas week and I think they're going to get it this year. I hope it stays cold with decent snowfalls, but what will be will be. Take advantage of this current weather as an opportunity to ski as much as possible. You never know how quickly it might flip.

Premature don't you think? The lift serviced season is only about 20% over with about 80% to go. Anything can happen and our best days may either be ahead of us or behind us. I don't measure seasons against each other until they are in the books or else I would have hung myself around this time last year when Jay was still skiing just one trail and I considered a two hour round trip drive for four runs a complete and utter waste of time.

I don't want to jinx things, but if this trend continues, the local "backcountry" around here could open up soon (Townsend, Leominster State Forest, Pearl Hill, Willard Brook, Watatic), and I could actually get the first use out of my Fischer Outtabounds wax setup for the first time since I bought it 4 years ago.

I have learned to get while the gettin's good. I have learned not to plan too far ahead. I have had too many disappoints in recent years, especially after learning to ski in the 70s and 80s when snowy cold winters were de-rigeur. I try to balance optimism with pragmatism. I've tried to broaden my skills so I can have fun, no matter how crappy the winter. I treat powder days in the east as a bonus, a privilege that can't be passed up.

The law of averages always wins. Let's keep the averages up by having a stellar winter to balance off some lousy ones of late.

git out there!

02/03 was the first winter I lived in MT..Bridger Bowl didn't open that year until December 26th..and only limited terrain..and the east got dumped on hardcore..especially early-mid season..

This is really my brain talking, but my heart feels otherwise. After today's event staying mostly frozen down here and being an overall net gain to our base, I'm starting to fantasize about a season that we will be talking about for many years to come.
