As great a start as this has been it PALES in comparison to the late 60's -early 70's . Folks here had little RED colored platic balls on the tops of their car radioo atennas so that you could see them ove the tops of tremendous snowbanks BY XMAS !!

Great start so far. I'm really hoping the resorts are PACKED for Christmas week and this pace keeps up. More money in the til now equals better services later.

I guess I am a pessimist. I really hope I am wrong, but I think we will have pretty subpar January and/or February. I just can't see how this kind of cold and snow can continue for 4 more months.

My parents just sent us kids out out into the road to check if the coast was clear to pull the car out. They knew full well that if something was out there, it couldn't stop if it wanted to. All four of us kids survived....

Hey kid, go play in the road!:-o

I hope that you are all knocking on wood after you say how great it's gonna be . . .

I'm in the pessism camp, too . . . I see a nasty January Thaw in our future, then a cold February with no snow, then a March with about 2 feet (24") . . . It has been written . . . we'll see what happens.

I cannot remember an early season like this one. The snowiest winters I can remember skiing through were '94 and '96, but I don't remember them being particularly early seasons.

Didn't 1995/1996 start better? The codo I was living back then was out of
snow removal budget for the whole winter before 12/31.

I remember 95/96, in NJ it seemed like it snowed almost everyday, there were snowbanks along the sides of the roads about 4 feet high, that's no exaggeration. The towns around here ran out of salt so the roads were basically packed snow with sand on top of them. I was at college at the time and I remember having to dig my car out constantly and all the parking spaces were like single car compartments in the snow. Unfortunately I wasn't skiing at the time or I would have some non car related memories.

Ditto.

It is off to a nice start though... :D

Indeed. I booked 6 days vacation at Attitash starting this weekend and it is looking very promising. I shied away from pre-Xmax vacation ski trip for a couple of seasons. The last time I did that, I ended up driving up to Brettonwood in 50+ degree weather in treacherous rain.

The best season for snow I can remember was 1969 when it snowed every week without set backs. If this season can compare with that benchmark who nows, but that was the era of huge snow banks and cars with the day-glo orange balls on the aerials. I need to scan a picture showing a roof being shoveled and huge snow piles along the road a la what one sees in the Sierras in a good winer.

I just want to post in a thread that got mentioned in the Globe.

It's looking pretty good so far, though.
