I upgraded to a Giro G10 for this season. It fits far better. I was in between a medium and a large with the nine and bought the nine in a large so I could fit a balaclava hood underneath on cold days, but it seemed a bit loose with that. The G10 seems to run just a little bit smaller than the nine and my large G10 fits PERFECT! The slider on top to open the vents will be a nice feature and better than pulling the inserts of the nine out. Highly recommended.

I just bought my daughter one a week ago....My G9 is fine for me this year.

I have never worn a helmet while skiing but I decided to get one this year for 2 reasons.

Firstlly I'm going to a couple of real mountains this year with real terrain and true double blacks and glades. (Home mountain is tiny. http://www.skiliberty.com/ )

Secondly, I have been experimenting in the park alot recentlly and there are lots of hard things to hurt your self on in there.

I'm also a complete techno-weenie so I order the Giro G10 MX with the tuneups II two-way radio link. It's gonna be so nice to actually hear when some one calls for me on the two way! If only the damn thing would get her so I can walk around my house in the middle of the night with it on listening to my skiing music on my MP3 player!

Started wearing one last year after realizing I make my kids wear them but I don't (hypocritical). I am the most aggresive skiier in my family so theoretically I need one the most (though with the kids, I think the biggest fear is them getting run into than falling and hurting themselves). I don't ride a mountain bike without a helmet so why not for skiing?

After some shopping settled on a Giro Fuse which I love. Just got my wife one for this year (she was helmetless last year).

I wore a helmet when I was very young (1st grade to 4th grade maybe). Then I outgrew it and didn't get another one until my sophomore year in high school when I got a season pass and started skiing more. I have a Leedom Prophet. I think it's pretty light, it's warm and comfortable, and has adjustable vents. I don't ski without it and will continue to wear a helmet for the rest of my skiing days.

I started wearing a helmet about 8 0r 9 seasons ago. I had a few too many close calls tending to wrecks at night.

I've had a mofo of a time finding one that fits. I'm on my third XXL Boeri and it, fits about the best of any that I've had. Thankfully, it's so warm (even fully vented) that I would never dream of wearing a hat. (Good thing, there's not a snowballs chance in Bagdad of me finding a bucket that big.)

I also have a Marker, which is a shorty, has tons of vents and fits well, with the earflaps off. I use it for my "Spring" helmet. Prior to the marker, I was considering using a Petzl Ecrin for spring, but I doubt it would provide much protection.

A helmet is not going to protect me in all circumstances. I can envision a sub 30MPG collision that could absolutely be fatal. Likewise, I see situations where a fall at much higher speed that might otherwise be fatal might have a different outcome with a helmet.

A helmet is does not eliminate the hazards, but it can help manage the risk. It's not the be-all, end-all of snowsport safety, but it certainly makes sense to me to wear one.

I probably have refered to this situation in every other Helmet thread over the years, so in deference to the Department of Redundancy Department, I'll include it here to make this thread complete.

I'm leaving work early one morning and I've already changed out of my uniform and into my ski clothes. I have my bag over my should with a helmet hanging from the shoulder strap. A coworker coments on the helmet: "Be carefull up there! I see you've got your helmet. You must be planning on hitting some trees."

My reply was paraphrased from a HAZMAT text I had been reading for a promotional exam: "My helmet is my LAST line of defense, not my first."

"My helmet is my LAST line of defense, not my first."

I think I will add that to my signature.

I think you should add "Brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department". Great line!

Yi'm into brain buckets too, much warmer , not hot , very comfortable:D

My first one saved my butt when i was blindsided on a steep by an out of control boarde.. I was hit ,spun around on the steep, whacked my head on the ice . The impact broke my bindings , but luckily i was not injured The SOB never even stopped to inquire after the incident> I was OK thanx to my helmet and good conditioning , just a mite sore from the impact

first generation bucket : Briko WC racer
second BB: Boeri custom graphic :" Bad Scorpion"
Current bucket: Giro Talon

Feel off balance without it. I do stop wearing it come Spring season, generally when it is 50 plus and you do not need anything but a pair of sunglasses.

I've found it's always wise to wear protection when in potentially dangerous situations.

I wear mine even in the spring. I just remove the ear covers and maybe take it off on the lift. Just because the temps are in the 50s doesn't mean that the human bullets aren't out there.

Interesting side story: last year at the Loaf in early april I saw a kid no more than 5-6 years old straightlining Spillway riding his tails the whole time. Conditions were spring like: firm with corn piles here and there. The kid was absolutely bombing and would bump up over these piles and miraculously come out fine. Eventually he took a spill, then got back up and kept going. I couldn't believe it. If I lived through a crash like that my dad would have killed me for skiing like that. That kid (and many like him) is the reason I wear a helmet. Sugarloaf is not a "gaper" mountain by any means and Spillway is theoretically an expert trail. That doesn't matter if you've got a missile like that kid coming at you. Scary.
