For a day...the maximum I'll drive is 3.5 hours

When I ski at Jackson Hole I like to have 8 ski days..7 at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and 1 day at Grand Targhee. Saturday to the following Monday works best for me and then I can ski from Sunday to Sunday. so despite 8 ski days and 2 travel days..I only use 6 vacation days.

Big Sky fits your criterion and should definitely be on your list. Though it does rate more then just 1 day.

Most I've done so far for a day trip with the family is just over 2 hours each way...makes for a long day without enough skiing. :-?

For a single overnight with the family, I could do about 3 - 3.5 hours max.

By myself, I think I could make a day trip with 3 hours each way...would have to be worth the drive, though.

Oh...you mean the drive time:ski time ratio? You need to be skiing as long as you'll be in the car? It doesn't always work out for me though...
.
I agree with this. Though the last season I really skied, I won free Killington passes on here (remember those days? ;) ) late in the season and Brian and I actually did a day trip for that. He was supposed to drive up and started falling asleep around Windsor Locks so I had to take over (smacking my face the whole way). On the way home, I started out and he took over. We were BEAT. I won't do that again.

ETA: So this was a midweek daytrip (sick day!) that was 4 or 4.5 hrs one way (bad choice in how to get there, plus I think Greg drives a lot faster than I do ;)). LOOOOOOONG day.

ETA again: I even found my OLD trip report for it. :D

Jay's just under 4

'Loaf's about 4

Saddleback is just over 4. I do them all, just not all the time.

Saddleback on a true pow day was just short of 10 hours of driving.

3 hours to Jay was my longest so far. Planning to do 4.5 to Sugarloaf if they have a decent amount of terrain open early season.

For a day trip the longest i did was 3.5 hours. Its not the ride there that is bad its the ride home. After skiing all day you really do not feel like sitting in a car for that long. But i do it all the time..

For a day trip 3.5 + or - is the max. That gets me as far as Sunday River or Wildcat. I did Sugarloaf once as a day trip but I don't think I'll try that one again.

For a weekend or a full week I'll drive anywhere in the North East.

One place I want to make a drive to is Whiteface for a couple of midweek days. Does anyone know how far the drive is from Worcester?

I guess 4 hours is my max day trip, but it has to be worth it to drive that far. This past April I made the 4ish hour trip to MRG which was TOTALLY worth it. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to drive home after that, but I decided to start driving and I'd stop if I needed it. I made it home no problems, I guess I was to amped from a great day of skiing to be too tired.

That said I wouldn't want to make that drive too often, I'd prefer to keep it to the 2-3 hour mark, or shorter...

Here's something I see at least once a week in season. Two guys drive up from Philly or somewhere in NJ, leaving after work. They arrive around 2:00 AM*. They are first at breakfast and ski hard all day. They come back, sit in the hot tub in the evening and then ski all day on Sunday, driving eight hours to get home so they can go into work on Monday.

I wouldn't want to be their boss and try to get any work out of them on Monday.

*Thankfully, I don't have to stay up for late arrivals. I just leave a key out and see them in the morning.

I drove an hour and half each way 50 times last year between school and Whiteface or my house and Cannon. I wouldve done 2, but any more than that and my day trips total would surely decline. Im a college kid, so unless I was crashing at a buddies place (which I did a couple times at Sugarloaf and Gore) Im not doing overnight trips.

3 to 4 hours for a day trip, which is about how long it takes to get to Hunter, Bell, or Platt, depending on traffic and or horrific accidents. 6 to 7 for Vermont trips but I'm not skiing that day. The fact that I'm willing to drive there and back is what keeps my wife sane and agreeable.
The craziest trip yet was not ski related though. From out hotel in Stockholm Sweden we took an unairconditioned train, it was 90 deg. for 4 1/2 hours, then dragged our luggage for a mile over a dirt road down to a floating dock behind a gas station where we where picked up by boat and floated around ALL night, drinking, ending up on an island for a BBQ, all in all night daylight. Sweden can be a very strange place. Can't wait to go back.

Generally 2.5 for a day trip. This gets me to Catskills or Jiminy. I can get to Sneaux in 3 but I don't like it all that much so why bother. Okemo is a little more than 3say 3:15 and Kton is 3:45 - 4. I did do Kton last April 1 as a day trip, but will not make a habit of that much driving for a single day.

Weekend Limit is 6-7 hours which gets me anywhere in NY, VT, NH, and maybe even ME.

Last Feb. I drove to Saddleback and Sugarloaf, then to Mont Sainte Anne, then Jay Peak, then Home to southern CT. That, my friends, was a lot of dam driving.
