How important is the 'ski town' to you?

Right now, not that important to me. If I'm heading out solo, it's usually a quick overnighter with a late arrival so the night life is negligible. Even if I was going on a boyz weekend, give me a bar with some decent beer on tap, and I'm fine. When vacationing with the family, we don't need much since the kids are still small. Usually a good place or two for take-out and we're fine. That will probably change as the kids get older.

You?

The skiing - not the town is what matters to me. Even at areas with no slopeside lodging or in the town, you can always find lodging relatively nearby. I'm not going to select a ski area based on its good nightlife. Though it is a bonus, all I really need is a place to rest after a great day of skiing.

For a local ski area..it's not important but for a ski trip it is..since I have several hours between when I'm finished skiing to when I go to bed to entertain myself..a nice ski town with good bars and restaurants..is definitely a big plus..

When I stay overnight at Belleayre..I feel like I have nothing to do at night..I go back to my room..drink a few beers..go out to dinner and then I'm back at my room and it's like 8PM...nowhere for pub crawls..but at Stowe and Jackson Hole..there are so many places to eat, drink and be merry..

I always do an overnight at Bell unless it's on the way to Vermont..It's a little over 3 hours for me but when I usually visit Bell in the spring..I want to ski both Saturday and Sunday so I'm not going to drive back and forth twice..so I spend Saturday night at some shit-hole motel...

At Stowe..I usually start the day first thing and eat an early lunch..then ski some more..I quit early afternoon and then go back to my room for some beers and usually a nap..then shower and go out for dinner and drinks..I personally haven't been to Burlington in 6 years...and I graduated from UVM 7 years ago..if we could get a group together maybe we could just get a limo to drive us to Burlington..as there is no way I'm doing that drive with a bunch of drinks in me..

If I'm not staying over, completely unimportant. If I'm staying over, halfway decent lodging and a conveinence store type place are about all I need. For a long stay, maybe one restaurant.

Not . . .

If I skied hard enough, I should be too tired for any crazy partying anyways . . .

GSS, you pub crawl all night, then get up at 5? I haven't been able to do that $hit since college . . .

Hahaha..more like pub crawl from dinnertime to 10PM..lol..I need my sleep as well..

Jackson Wyoming is a great ski-town IMHO..

Besides the snow the biggest reason I like skiing Utah is staying in downtown SLC and not having to deal with a ski town. $$$ Ski town lodging and overly pretentious restaurants will drive me to to point of insanity after a couple days. I kind of like bethel Maine as a ski town because it's a regular town also.

If I'm on vacation..I enjoy the trendy ski town restaurants..nice places to throw around some yuppie food stamps..ie..20 dollar bills..plus you don't have to get dressed up like in big cities..

Last season I had a few >50$ dinners at Mr. Pitwicks in Stowe, Trio in Jackson Hole...and The Gunbarrel Steakhouse in Jackson Hole..it cancels out some of the Ramon noodles of my skibum days...

Not! If I daytrip...totally insignificant. On the rare occasion we go to Killngton with inlaws...we enjoy the local opportunities.

I'd like a beer or two in the lodge with some food and reflect on the day with friends. As with the famous line from "The Jerk"..."that's all I need....and this stool."

A town or resort is a definite plus. In fact, I'd say it's a necessity.

If I'm going overnight somewhere, it's like a mini-vacation, so a good bar for a drink after skiing and a good selection of restaurants for later is a must (family-friendly if with the kids; good food if with the wife). If I'm with the boyz, a bar scene is a definite plus. What the hell else would we do? Hang out in the hotel, drink a beer, watch TV and snuggle?

I don't buy the argument of "if you ski enough/hard enough, you won't want to go out"....For me, it's all part of the package. Then again, I am hard core (LOL). IMHO, if you ski "so hard" that you're too exhausted at the end of the day to go out, good for you, I guess, but you might also just have an issue with your technique.... ;-)
