Hey,

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of ski season. I am hoping to go this weekend. I was planning on heading up to Hunter and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what may be open.

I know they have been working on the Belt. Hopefully Ike will be open as I have actually never hit Ike yet.

Thanks and maybe I'll even see some of you up there this weekend

I'm sure Jessica will be chiming in here with details, but I'm guessing Belt is a given. Ike a strong possibility if they are continuing with how they opened trails in recent years. Seems like they're making more of an effort at Hunter One though to get some of the beginner terrain going this year (probably a good thing.)

Belt and Mossy are the next priorities.

Below is an e-mail I sent to Herb Stevens this morning....later this afternoon I'll post a snowmaking update --

This week we've been running on 3 lifts and 11 trails...we have a base of approx. 60" so we haven't lost much, despite the balminess. Snowmaking is going to restart possibly tonight, and we'll work on the Belt Parkway, Mossy Brook, reblanket Hunter One and probably get some more 5 fingers trails depending upon the forecast. Since Midstation is finished, they're going to try to get the trails joining Midstation (Heuga, Cliff, etc) and the fingers (Ike, Gun Hill) to ease up on Hellgate traffic.

The forecast looks pretty good, though tomorrow is still too warm for snowmaking and it says it's going to rain on Thursday. We're still using pre-season ticket pricing, but I am not sure how that will change once our trail count goes up. I'd say we'll probably have around 15 trails for the weekend if weather cooperates and we get 2+ nights of snowmaking. Belt and Mossy will be the next ones to open.

I don't see Belt being open

Looks like gate, to 7th, to kennedy, to 5th to the quad

Huh? The mainline is already open. And Belt needs only one cold night or two. See Jessica's update above.

Jessica,

That would be great if you guys got that much terrain open for the weekend. The end of the week looks perfect for making snow and if the temperatures are a bit colder over the next few days maybe you'll get snow instead of rain.

Once it gets cold enough you guys are the best at pumping out snow and opening terrain.:flame:

Thanks,
Stephen

Dump hunter newb question...

How much of Hunter West has snow making? If there is snow making on HW, when would the guns normally fire up?

All of Hunter West has snowmaking.

There is not snow over on the West side yet.

We will probably move to Way Out in early to mid December, weather permitting. We try to get the front side of the mountain covered before we move to the back.

But of course this year you will make an exception and have the back covered by December 14th, because the AZ guys are coming, right?

I assumed that some of the back side didn't have snow making when I read on here that trails like Annapurna don't open at all some years.

I would love to have Annapurna for 12/14. I could spend the whole day back there. I think they typically work on Claire's first though. I would think 'Purna would be easier to open though.

Put in a good word with mountain ops for us, won't ya Jess? ;)

Does the bottom of Taylor's have any snowmaking? I don't think I've ever seen snowmaking on it.

It's usually either 44 (Westway) or Annapurna that get snowmaking. Typically not both, unless we've got a season with very few warm-ups. The only other place on the mountain that doesn't always get snowmaking is the Highlands area of Hunter One.

took the work crew to way out...lifted up and looked like westway was open..it was not...did it open at all last year?

Anyway, had a former boss with me on anna...

He goes, "Ya know you don't report to me anymore, so you don't have to kill me"

Everyone else jammed down...I had to stay cause I though he was gonna die

I love that trail

And the woods off of it

Officially, I don't think so, but there were tons of people on it after the big storms last year.
