Much of the main mountain is open and all of the West side is also open except West Way (44). Gonna be COLD next week. Think they's start on 44?

Current rumour from the mountaintop is that Hunter has stopped blowing snow except to resurface existing trails...

BUT - lets pray for a dump...

Unlikely this season.

If it opens officially, it'll be because of an epic dump.

do they have snowmaking on this trail? If yes then why not open it up?

$$$$$$

didnt you notice the lack of natural snow this season? Everything that mtn has is basically man made right now. Can you imagine the investment already, and now you ask that they pump more $$$$ into another expert trail? I dont think its going to happen...

I have only been to Hunter once but I only remember 3 runs on that side... why should it be such a big deal to open this up.. I see the trail has tower guns... everyone brags about the place's snowmaking so much......

We don't brag about it... It's something that just is...

Opening 44 is a big deal to open because it's SOOOO big... and it's SUPER windy...

So it takes a huge effort to open...

I haven't seen one person who frequents these boards who doesn't brag about their snowmaking capabilities...... I am/was friends with the Transue's, so I know all about it, lol. I was just wondering what the big deal was getting the trail covered... thx for the explanation though : )

They certainly have the capability to open it. But, it will cost a ton, and the snow blows off of it very quickly. With all the resurfacing early this year, that is probably too much of an additional cost.

Of course, if we get a big dump, they'll probably continue to resurface it, but they don't want to commit that much money for the amount of snow required to cover it.

I believe the upper terrain on Hunter One is in the same situation (off the E double, and the pony lift)

Prolly cost a hundred grand to open her up. Not a wise investment...for them anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I've never skied it but I've often seen people ask about it. Looking forward to Purna soon! That trail seems more my speed anyway...

Total waste of money. That trail is huge. It's got the width of some Western style bowls. Besides, Annapurna is a much better trail and much better protected. I was dissapointed last year when they focussed on 44 over 'purna.
