Taking them slightly out of order:

Sports wise? I like Ultimate and tennis. Tennis I play occasionally on weekends. Ultimate I have joined rec-level summer leagues the past few summers, but don't know if I will this summer yet as I'm going to be studying for the bar at the beginning, and then away for a couple weeks hopefully later.
gustmouse said:
Do you plan for ski trips?
Normally no, but this year I might go to Chile for a week in August, so I'm doing the planning right now--and waiting for a friend to get back about his friend committing.

gustmouse said:

When I do buy equipment it is normally during the end of the season/off-season, but for this year I have no plans to do so. I do try to do an end-of-the-season tuneup of my skis on my own, though that doesn't happen every year.

Read ski publications?
What do you like to read in ski magazines?
Of course! For the publication reading I like to read about terrain at mountains, and more so the mountains that I will ski. Even though I think the results are often absurd, I like the Ski Mag Resort Survey, at least for starting discussions on boards like these :) To be honest, though, if I didn't get Skiing and Ski for free I would likely not subscribe, because I think the amount of content per issue that I actually like is so low.

gustmouse said:

Not nearly enough. If I get to play enough Ultimate and tennis, i guess that keeps me in shape. I occasionally get myself to the gym, but not as much as I should. This is something I have to work on, not only for skiing but just for general health.

gustmouse said:

I always think about places I want to go, but generally don't make formal plans during the off-season.

Only have a few times in my life, but it's fun nonetheless.

Lighten up, guys. This is my brother. He's trying to pitch a potential Eastern ski magazine to the publisher he works for. As a non-skier, he's just doing some research.

What do you do in the off season? Some biking, some fishing, some work around the yard.

Do you plan for ski trips? I dream of ski trips...but I wouldn't really call it planning.

Purchase or think about purchasing new skiing equipment? I don't normally buy ski gear in mid summer. I'll window shop, I'll e-bay hunt, but I usually don't "buy" till September.

Think about last year’s season? Photos help a lot.

Dream about next year’s season? Aw yeah.

Do you do anything too keep in shape for next year’s season? Yes, basketball, lift, eliptical machine, bike.

Read ski publications? I've read skiing books in the summer....All Mountain Skier etc. But ski mags are rarely skiing related in the summer (that I've seen anyway).

What do you like to read in ski magazines? As much as I don't count on the gear reviews...I do like to see all the new gear spread out and compared (price/category/skier level, etc)

Work on your skis, snowboards or other equipment? I usually put a coat of wax on the bases on a nice hot summer day...let the wax melt in...etc...but that's about it. Out of sight, out of mind (out of obsession) till the fall.

Plan on visiting different resorts next season? Yes. I'll re-look the web sites.

Visit ski resorts in the summer for non skiing activities? Occasionally. Take the lift ride

In the off season I read ski history information, research, explore old ski areas, collect ski memorabilia, work on my ski related website, Dream about skiing, think about where I might like to ski the next season, Swim, play in a community band.

I plan for a couple weekend trips a year. One trip is an annual event, the other is usually to a different place each year.

gustmouse said:
Purchase or think about purchasing new skiing equipment?
I generally do not do this during the off season, but I read reviews and look at information on new things I may be interested in buying and set up a demo list for the next season...at least mentally.

gustmouse said:
Think about last year’s season?
I often review pictures from last season and other prior seasons. I sometimes look at last season's trail maps, particularly if I come across and old (vintage) one and want to look at how the area has changed.

gustmouse said:

Always dream about skiing...winter, spring summer and fall!

gustmouse said:
Work on your skis, snowboards or other equipment?
Usually do this in September or October.

gustmouse said:
Plan on visiting different resorts next season?
Right now I am trying to finish my quest to visit all areas, large and small in New England so I make plans based on that...I also look at other areas that I may want to visit and sometimes request information from the areas.

gustmouse said:

All the time! I like to explore and look for trails that are no longer there, lift evidence (foundations, old lines, etc.) Look for "Bone Yards" and on some occasions, go to areas for events they are having in the summer. I have also gone to areas that I have not skied before to check them out.

Hope this is helpful.

Hello All,

I have an informal poll, please answer any, all or none of the questions.

What do you do in the off season?
Pine for the next season. I also do about 1000miles on rollerblades and a little mountain biking. If I have to I do some of the many chores my wife has lined up for me. Hopefully I will get them done before the next "season" begins.

Do you plan for ski trips?
Yes. We usually take a group of eight to Stratton for a three day thing.
We are also planning a week at Panorama in British Columbia.

Purchase or think about purchasing new skiing equipment?
I thing I'm fully equipped right now, but I'm always looking.

Think about last year’s season?
Oh yea. Exspecially at work.

Dream about next year’s season?

Do you do anything too keep in shape for next year’s season?
Rollerblade and mountain bike.

Read ski publications?
Only ones I get for free.

What do you like to read in ski magazines?
Warren Miller.

Work on your skis, snowboards or other equipment?
I try to get a good coat of wax on my skiies to protect them. I don't think the tune up people appreciate that, but the skiies come first.

Plan on visiting different resorts next season?
As many as the household management (read"wife") will allow.

Visit ski resorts in the summer for non skiing activities?
I'm close to Jiminy Peak, so some days I will mountain bike up the backside and ride down to the lift for a ride back up. Sometimes I would get a ride on the alpine slide or something else, however since my daughter will no longer be working there I doubt there will be any more free rides.

Thank you!

Your welcome
