Some (you know who you are... ;) ) might argue that Sugarbush doesn't deserve the hype it gets (I don't argree). What other mountains do you feel are overrated?

Yes I know who I am, but I do not think SB is overrated. When you are talking about the best ski area in the NE they are definetely in the conversation without a doubt. Some people, you know who you are, think SB is head and shoulders above every other area, that's where I disagree.

im just going to sit here and wait for the Killington bashing to start.. :D

this thread is just begging for that...

I think every resort I have been to has something that makes it what it is...I dont listen to "hype" so I don't consider anything "overrated"...I like something about every resort I visit...even if its just the food HA..

I tend to agree here. I normally have to really struggle to find something bad about any day of skiing...

lol, i was thinking the same thing. When it comes to media hype, it is overrated. When you talk to other skiers, it can fall into the underrated or overrated category. When people slam the place, they tend to overlook the fact that it does indeed have some very nice terrain. When they claim it as the best area in the east, well, it's very easy to pick that apart. Seems like a love hate thing. Overrated, i'll say Okemo. But even that is based upon my skiing likes, and some people, actually a lot of people judging by their skier visits, would wholeheartedly disagree with that.

I would second the Okemo designation and throw in Bretton Woods. Simply because they don't offer a whole lot of the type of skiing that I prefer. I haven't skied at Stratton so I can't comment on that one.
I have only skied once at Smuggs on a late spring day when only 50% of the terrain was open. I really wasn't impressed with the slow/low capacity lifts (they should really take more of a hit in the SKI magazine rankings for this  ). It did appear that they had a lot of very interesting terrain though.

To be honest I don't see the hype you speak of except here and maybe on snowjournal.com which share several of the same members. If you notice on epicski.com, the only photos in the member gallery of the Bush are yours.

Compared to MRG the Bush is the baby sister of hype. I do however share your love for the place.

Oh gosh...where do I start??

Okemo
Bretton Woods
SOME of Stowe's terrain
Attitash
I'm surprised you didn't include Sunapee...

I enjoy going there (mainly because I don't have high requirements or expectations), but some may consider it to be overrated...

Well, to be fair to Epic, they're far from an Eastern-oriented forum, where we and SJ, for the most part, are.

Burke, Wildcat and Hunter get my vote.

No, my days of trying to correct the naysayers are over...not gonna fight with Hunter bashers anymore.

Thanks Andyzee...you're right, Hunter is overrated. So you keep on driving the extra 2 hours up to the mighty K, the resort that is everything to everybody. Don't ever stop at Hunter...it sucks.

As much as Wildcat and Burke.

I wouldn't want K-Mart to miss out on the bashing!

I would never bash them for their terriain. There is a good mountain there. The complaint I have heard from all who complain is there are way too many people on the trails.

People talk about the crowds as not being that bad because the lines aren't that bad. That is not the problem. It is when every left turn finds someone on your left, and every right turn finds someone on your right. I find it makes people aggressive and that is transferred to many who work there.

It isn't that I didn't know the mountain. I had a pass there for three seasons, and skied close to 50 days each season. At the end of the third season I was so frustrated with the place that I left, not to return for years, and then only twice.

And this speaks to the above comment about Smuggs' double chairs, and the one at the Castlerock area at the bush. Yes. It is slow getting up. That is really bad for those who come to ride the lift, but there is a lot to be said for being able to ski without people around you at all times.
