Color change is happening around my dad's house in Enfield and alot of trees are now losing their true summer green and preparing for fall.

I just finished shutting down our pool and saying goodbye to it as we hope to go into contract with our house this week. The water was filthy with alot of leaves and bugs having been blown into the pool from yesterdays storm, and the water was an uncomfortable 67F which made vacuming the pool less than fun.

With the pool closed down summer is over for me and my thoughts now turn torwards skiing:smile:

In Vt, it's the "Green" mountains and in NH it is the "White" mountains ..what color are the mountains in Maine? I thought I saw on a map "Blue" mountains...
smokey mountains have the blue ridge parkway, perhaps those are the blue mountains you are referring to? the white mountain range extends into maine. i think of maines mountains more of an extension of the whites in NH than anything else.

Okay. Labor Day is behind us. Time to really focus on the upcoming season. I love the fall and the cooler nights just have me thinking about snow! Bring it!

I was in a rush this morning and forgot, but tomorrow I will be dropping my skis off at Outdoor Sport in Wilton, CT to get some preseason TLC put into them.

lots of color on the trees up here already, mind boggling. i thought the few trees i saw turning during the last week of august were flukes, but the color change has already begun. still only a few trees here and there, nothing note worthy in terms of leaf peeper action, but an impressive amount of yellow and orange for the first week of september! i have also noticed the days getting shorter, sweet.

Color is also developing by the day here on the CT/MA border. A big maple on the corner of our office is turning orange. It was really cold here in late August (47F) so the color change is not too suprising.

We're starting to get some color here in Lyndonville. I hiked Pisgah up near Lake Willoughby on Monday and found more foliage turning at the top of that than anything else.

This is a transitional time. I can't wait for snow, but I'm not yet ready to quit camping or hiking. In the next month I plan to do some "greatest hits" type trails -- Franconia Ridge, something on Mansfield, maybe something in the Presidentials -- now that the summer crowds are gone.

It was nice and cool in the Whites this weekend. On Mt. Adams, maples were only starting to turn, but lots of birches were turning in King Ravine.

Also, I'm crazy about college football, so that will keep me occupied until it's time to hit the slopes.
