I actually still have a pair of stretch pants with a flair leg that I love and are still comfy to wear. Maybe I should break them out and head to bumpalooza, eh?

Its makes me smile, esp. if it is worn with confidence and the skier can back it up.

One of my pet peeves in ski clothing is pants, esp. for guys. They are ALL black!! If you are lucky, you might get a gray or a brown. You have to hunt like hell to find a basic red or blue. Anything more interesting is a rare find. Now, place that against he backdrop of the jackets, which, even for guys, presents many options, in all sorts of patterns and colors, from bland to eye-searing...It doesn't make sense to me.

The ladies, and to a certain extent, the park guys, have it better, but only to a certain degree.

I wear red pants, I have a green and beige jacket that I love, but that makes me look a touch like a christmas tree.

Of course, this harkens back to the Devils jerseys of my youth, so I can live with it ;)

On warmer/non-windy days, I switch to a powder blue North Face (warning...this picture may or may not have been taken after 3 or 4 beers)

or a dark blue North Face fleece,

or even a lighter blue EMS pullover,

The red pants help when skiing with a group, esp. when you are usually the leader, as the rest of the group can follow you, find see which lift you are going to, etc..., without hunting.

I hear ya. I hate black ski pants. Spent the last few seasons in light grey, but they're getting kinda ratty. Upgraded to tan cargos, but unfortunately, they are too small for me. Scored a pair of cool TNF cargos though in a subtle greyish-green camo pattern (gotta outdo grassi and the houndstooth). Also upgraded to a black Marmot softshell up top and a matte black helmet. Still got the screaming green boots.

I don't make a huge effort with my ski style selection, but try to get things to match somewhat. Regardless, I rarely select anything that's really eye-popping.

TC, your outfits look fine, its just that you'll have to buy something new in the next year or two when those are no longer in style. Thats the catch of fashion. Of course you could keep on wearing that year after year, but those styles end up going the way of Zubaz.

IMHO, we need the rebirth of the neon skiwear revolution ala late 80's/early 90's style!!! (and those of you here at AZ that were on the hill back then know what I mean!) ;)

Seriously, that is a big pet peeve of mine too.
And when you do find something interesting, the fit sucks.
I was thrilled when I tried on the ripcurl pants in original post and they fit.
My other ski pants are black and brown.

TC, if you find a 12 step (or maybe a 12 zipper) program for your issues, please let me know so I can get my wife hooked up in it too!

Two primary things I have for criteria in purchasing a ski jacket to start with (other features also considered after these two things are met)

  • It can't make me look like a snow bank(no white)
  • It can't make me look like a tree(no black, grey or brown)

This kinda makes me sad because I like some of the brown jackets out there, but I just can't blend, it wouldn't be me. :)
Dr Jeff, you're assuming that I want help for this condition? Silly boy!

I'm a form over function guy and I tend to buy gear based on hiking and skiing needs -- keep me warm and dry, have heat sealed zips that can unzip to cool me off in a spring hike, not too baggy so there's not too much material flapping around in the wind. Even when I was a teenager, I tended to dress very conservatively and this has spilled over into my skiing. I'm usually in a blue jacket and black bibs -- which probably makes me look like half the people on the hill. If people want to dress in offbeat clothes or loud colors, that's their freedom although I also wonder about how people keep up their baggy pants.

I like snoseek's idea about made-to-measure clothing. I'm on the short side and finding jackets and pants that aren't too long and make me look shorter can be a challenge sometimes. We can call this "bespoke ski gear." By the way, I was in Brooks Brothers the other day and they are selling Gore Tex ski jackets and bibs.

BTW, nice outfit, TC! I assume you enjoyed Stowe!

TC, well I'm pretty sure my wife has no desire to admit that she has a ski coat problem, and hence will never seek "treatment" for it. In the mean time, many a ski shop within about a 20 mile radius of Mount Snow will benefit each and every year from her "addiction" :)

This year though could see her with an especially heavy case of "ski-coat ho-itis" as due to her triathalon training she's almost 20lbs lighter and depending on the cut of the garment 6 to 8 sizes smaller than she was a year ago :)

I'll admit I'm in that Jacket Slut thread. B should be in it, too. ;) Though there's very little overlap in our jacket quivers... just covering all the bases. (Plus a couple sizes....)

Thinned the quiver a bit earlier this month. And this time, the "fat" jackets are going bye-bye!

I get black ski pants for two reasons. Being short all the cool pants are too long and get caught up in the bindings, but Northface makes pants in a "short" which fit good. The second is that you don't notice the grease marks from the lifts when it snows and drips on them.
