Storm Daphne dropped 6 inches of excellent base snow very dense it looks like a banner year for Mt. Sunapee.
Mt. Sunapee offers some fine glade skiing. Outer Ridge a South facer was splendid in the March of 05. The Terrain truly opened up. Glades off cataract were supreme, a true delight. The tree skiing between Blastoff and Bonanza even had a little rock to jump off, of which I dubbed Chris's Rock. One can get a little off-piste skiing to the right of Goosebumps on the North peak. I prefer the Upper Ridge Glades. THe South facing slope brought memories of Wally World in Stmbt Sprgs.
Of course after a day of Skiing their is the NFL playoffs on the large widescreen in the Goose Pub
It is necessary to arrive at 8:15 this is so to ski the gravy, couduroy. At two hours from Boston it allows for day tripping to be completed.
Apre-ski is availible. One can stay over at the Best Western nearby. The mountain does afternoon Apre-ski with various promotions. Miller Lite ski girls etc. One can also come across seasonal rentals as an option too. It's a great place for a ski club seasonal rental as well. It's proximity, relative quality of ski experience leads one to believe that Mt. Sunapee may be a central hot spot on the ski growth grid
12/20/05 "Down in the Vally Forge"
The sterling snow awaits the mass trampling of eager skiers over the holidays. Mt. Sunnapee will easily have fair crowds on the Holidays. I suggest ski thru lunch and focus on the positive "ample snow" and "Bright sunshine". Alternate activities do a C.Country endeaver to break up the clamor of crowds.
It is recommended to get out in the vast snowfields up North for their sunshine offerings.
Forecast calls for Great Glacial epoch for 05-06
The official storm count is now at Emma Francine. Emma and francine are set to strike over the Holidays. These storms will blister the entire region in accumulations of 10 inches total at 5" apiece.
Up North, because of snowpack the moving airmass will just be cold enought to snow. No significant deterioration of the snow is expected. This will not be a catastrophic thaw. I repeat this will not be a catastrophic thaw. Resume plans as scheduled. winter temps are nudging lower. Air masses flowing eastward will cool nearing large dense snowpack. Meltoff will be nonexistent as the Ice Cap thickens. It is recommended that one purchases a Siberian Husky or two. These dogs will be needed to pull sleds and rescue people from snowbanks.
