Anyone know if you can still purchase a single ride lift ticket at Stowe? I planning on a backcountry trip linking the Tear Drop Trail and Bruce. I would like to park at Stowe ride the lift head over to Tear Drop, ski it, climb back up and ski down Bruce Trail. Any added info would be appreciated.

I don't think so. I don't ever remember one for Mansfield. They used to do it primarily for those who wanted to go over Madonna Mt. from Spruce to Smugglers.

Single Lift Rides?

I heard at Smuggs you can ride the lift free for the first 1/2 hour of operation in the a.m., do you know if Stowe has the same. I've got all the AT gear to climb, but I am trying to ski both trails in one day and hopefully only climb Manfield one time.

You used to be able to get a one up on the Gondola for $9, but this was seven or eight years ago.

I think they want $20 for a single round trip ride up the Gondola. I like Stowe a lot but $20 for a single ride? And it won't get you where you want to go. Otherwise, I don't think there are any single lift ride options, though I don't know that for a fact.

I called Stowe, and you are partially correct. If you are staying at the stone hut they do sell a single ride ticket. Have not heard back from VT state parks yet for more info on that. Other info, there is some sort of race this weekend where they will be selling single ride tickets for pratice runs on sat., and they also sell ticket for single ride on gondola but they don't let you take any ski gear. Just heard back from Stone Hut manager, Stowe has a list of people scheduled to stay at the stone hut and the stone hut is booked for the season already. So,sounds like I am climbing Mansfield without the help of the big ski resort conglomerate. By the way thanks to those two jerks who carved that scare on Big Jay, the best lift access backcountry in the NorthEast. What where they thinking.

FWIW the ticket window at the Gondola had a sign that said that single ride tickets were for sale...I think it was $20.

Yes, thats what Stowe customer service told me. But, she also said the lift attendents will not let you on the gondola with ski gear.

Well, I guess that single gondola ride must be for sightseeing?Maybe there is something special about lodge up top worth going up for lunch/dinner without skiing?

Really? That's weird....

there is policy and then there is practice ;)

(there must have been some sort of "incident" in the past they are trying to prevent/discourage - that's how volumes legislation occurs....)
As in most of this stuff, they are smart enough to know they can't really prevent, they realized they can only discourage.....

Exactly. Like I said before the example of the two "people" who clearcut that trail on Big Jay. Now it's closed to all of us who follow the rules!

If you don't ski and are there with family/friends who do... why not? They have a pretty nice restaurant up there and if you're stying at the new lodge you probably have enough disposable income.

Plus, if you've ever ridden some trams or cable cars in Europe, $20 will seem like a bargain.

That's what I figured at a place like Stowe. I was originally inquiring about the single ride ticket in order to access the backcountry. I will just have to skin up.

I think it's for people who just want to eat at the Cliff House. Skinning up Toll Road may be the best option. Been wanting to do the Bruce and Teardrop myself.

Yeah, I think I am going to try the Monroe Trail on Camel's Hump saturday and then do Smuggler's Notch on Sunday. I just have never skied at Stowe and don't want to pay $70 bucks looking for secret stashes. My buddy used to live over by Smuggs so he showed me alot of locals spots. I am not a snob, it's just that I don't get out as much as I would like and, basically I don't like skiing in crowds. That's why I invested in an AT set-up.
