All hands on deck to get slopes ready for holidays.
After looking at the zip line. WTF, it looks unsafe at any speed. I don't understand ziplines, bungee jumping, hang gliding or being pulled off a beach by a power boat wearing a parachute. Sking is dangerous, butt at least I can control the risks.

You know how some fashion designers label women's clothing in a size Medium, but it's really a Large? That's Liftline.

Thinking of changing my plan for Xmas weekend at Beaver Creek to a plan for Xmas weekend at Stowe - which has been getting a lot more snow and is way more open. Hit BC in March instead.

Thoughts?

Unfortunately there’s a big storm coming Sunday that may wash away a lot of the open terrain at Stowe depending on when / at what elevation it switches over to snow

It's only wednesday..too early for..depressing weather...I'm making the most if it..out there every day.
The top 2/3rds of the upper mt is great..lower third is pretty frozen but not iced up..just beats the crap out of you.
Amazing that upper goat, national Starr and lookout are open. Upper liftline is not..looks super deep..wonder why?

You never know. We went out to Beaver Creek over Xmas 2 seasons ago and it looked pretty bleak a week before we were set to arrive. Maybe 25% of the mountain was opened. Then a day before we got there it started snowing and it snowed non stop our whole visit making for an incredible experience.

On the other hand, we did Christmas at Sugarbush over the 2018 or 2019 season when VT got all of that early season snow in November and early December. I got really excited seeing that but by Christmas alot of terrain that was open in early December was closed over that holiday and conditions were icy.

Your going to need a little luck on your side either way although I think the probability of having the best chance at good early season conditions will be in Colorado at higher elevations.

Seriously?? You do realize that Birds of Prey was completely cancelled due to a snowstorm all weekend, yes??? As Urungus noted, ski it now if you want. No guarantees it doesn't go the other way til and throw Christmas. That has been the trend the last several seasons out East. Get a big dump early December stoking all our hopes and dreams, then deluge.

BC having 7% of their terrain open now has me concerned about a trip in 16 days being a great use of our vacation time and dollars, and if I am taking my kids out there once this year their March break seeks like a much better bet. Will see where they are at next week when I have to make the call for a lodging refund. In the mean time I booked lodging in Stowe and North Conway as a back up plan. No guarantee it will be great in the East but at least less invested in getting there if it bites and more freedom to move plans to other mountains.

That is true. But one more storm could open up a ton of terrain at BC. Not to mention, now that B.O.P. is over, they can shift their focus elsewhere.

I'd be careful with that.

We did X-mas at stowe a few years back. Season was similar to this one.

Mountain nearly fully open. I was so psyched. By kids had never caught a good trip to stowe. Thought we finially hit it.

Warm up a few days before we got there, then temps crash dived with no snow. Mountain was frozen solid.

Anything can happen in VT. This storm sunday seems like a nail biter. Hopefully at elevation it's all snow, but....

Little storm in CO friday....but yes, the forecast past that looks bleak. But that too can change quick, and that would change for the better with one bi storm.

Oh yeah if you are between now and march for CO, I'd go in march for sure. They are pretty thin.

Utah is doing pretty well....can you shift to that for X-mas?

No I can't switch flights to Utah. I am also considering switching stay to Vail as an option. Don't want to do Keystone or Breck as one of my teens is altitude sensitive.

Which way does that bi storm go? Both ways?
