Is anyone from the board coming up to ski Sugarbush's $5.50 lift ticket this (edit: Friday?) Last year, it was a fabulous deal as we had probably the best snow all season in the first few weeks of December. As you all know, it went downhill in a hurry. This year there are maybe 12-15 trails open at the moment, is all, but it's hard to argue with the $5.50 lift ticket?

As an aside, we went to Chez Henri for our anniversary last night in the Sugarbush Village. I got a chance to walk around the new lodge and gatehouse at Lincoln Peak for the first time since they'd opened up. It looks fantastic. The bar, especially, was great. It looks a little like the Round Barn in Waitsfield on the inside, but modern and new and with great windows out toward the mountain. Really, top notch.

I would love to see more development in a similar style go from the base lodge toward Sugarbush Village. That whole area would have a walkable, Park City feel.

I think I will join you! How is it that I have not heard of this? I am a newbie to the MRV, but I thought I paid attention. $5.50 is too good to turn down. Worth the drive, even if there is not so much terrain open.

Correction!

I just called Sugarbush to get more info. The $5.50 deal is FRIDAY Dec. 22 and is to celebrate Sugarbush's anniversary. Thursday is normal prices.

Sorry, you're right. I keep thinking Thursday because that's the night people are booking to stay at the inn. The actual day is FRIDAY. Sorry and thanks for the correction.

They do this every year, BTW, and Mad River does a similar thing later in the year. Skiing is such an expensive sport, it's nice to take advantage of deals like this when they come along.

not so hot..

I've had several not-so good experiences with deep-discount days during the early season. For me, the slope have been extremely crowded, which severely restrict where I can go/what I can do; I expect this year will be one of the worst; no BC/glades; everyone is funnelled on the same trails. Sorry, for me, even a free day with too many people just isn't worth the 200 mile round-trip. For the locals, that's a different story... Enjoy they day.

( It was snowing pretty heavy when I drove through the Bershires yesterday. But, sigh, it wasn't accumulating...)

i have skied early season free days before and would normally agree with you.... except that this season, sentiments like your own might keep more people away than normal ;) honestly, i prob wouldn't make the 1.5 hour drive if it was a day off (i could ski jay peak for free for only an hour drive), but since i will be driving right past the exit on I-89, it is a no brainer for me.

King M,

That is exactly the plan. We want to eventually connect the two villages and keep a real Vermont look. Thanks for your comments. We are really proud of Clay Brook, Timbers and the new Gate House lodge.

Probably top to bottom at ME tomorrow, but the base down low is thin. I skiied up top at Mount Ellen this am and FIS was superb and that is not an exaggeration. Word was that Organgrinder was also skiing excellently today. We will likely have Jester open tomorrow at LP and somewhere around 19 trails open tomorrow. The quality up high is good where we have been able to make snow consistently.
