I'm 99.9% positive we had a thread similar to this but i couldnt find it.

anyway, do you find yourself skiing more aggresively or in any way differently when skiing with new people? trying to prove yourself, for lack of a better term.

myself, i have to kind of say no. although i probably tend to take more chances then when i ski alone but that is more of a self preservation kind of thing. I'm not likely to ski trees or huck anything if someone isnt there to immediately report a cadaver in the woods.

In groups, I tend to push it up a few notches than skiing along. Love it! I feed off of others adrenaline, my competitiveness kicks in even more once we start charging the woods, where I take silly skinney/ hard lines that I probably wouldn't have if I was skiing alone. Gotta LOVE IT!!

I guess I try harder when skiing with others or new people. Not so much that I have anything to prove, but more that I don't want to look like a complete dope. Not sure what my success rate is...

i started this thread because of something you said in an earlier pm about not going crazy on saturday if those bumps are frozen.

i wonder if anyone is gonna get all amped up trying to beat the one and only 2knees and end up hurting themselves....... :flame: :smash:

I definitely take a more aggressive approach when skiing in a group, even if it's just my girl, I'm waay less likely to huck stuff in the woods or explore tight off trail stuff if I'm skiing alone.

Unfortunately I seem to ski alone quite a bit.

I'd say I take more chances skiing alone, and ski faster and more runs without taking a break than I should. Although I'll modify that strategy in the future.

When one is as ancient as me, no longer having anything to prove, in most cases I ski slower than most people I'm with, largely because it's a mixed group, and I want everyone to have an enjoyable time. Thus I often ski with the lowest common denominator, excepting hardline and few other select souls....

There are some folks I ski with that are so damn fast and good that I have seen stars trying to pace them. So I don't.

In the end, if I'm not at the bottom with a smile on my face, I'm not having fun, I make adjustments.

It would be hard to drive all the way over just to stand there and check it out. Specially with a comp ticket and the ok to start skiing again. Too many kids duties that day anyway. Don't think I haven't thought about it though!!

+1 My sentiments exactly.

I'll tend to feel out the group dynamic first and make sure that everyone seems comfortable 1st. Once I feel like everyone is fitting and having a goodtime, then if I want to, I'll use the gears that in many groups I won't be using at first. Occasionally, from run 1 I'll be with a group where I need to have it in overdrive from the 1st turn. Those are the days where I'm often mentally checking to see if they're any changes I want made to my will when I'm on the next chair ride.

Unless of course its a powder day, when it's all about me and freshies and I'll make sure that everyone is comfortable later that day over a cold beer ;)

Yes.

Truth be told I don't ski at all if no one else is there to ski with. I'll just hang out in the lodge, drinking beer.

mid-50s. Does that change change things?

Not at all. I was just curious what 'ancient' to you was. In any case, I agree, pretty ancient.

Yes. I'm ego driven while on skis. I also ski differently under chairlifts.

The other thing is I'm hesitant to ski trees alone, but I think that's actually due to some sound logic.

True dat. I would bet the average active AZer is a half-life or slightly higher.
When my daughter was about 6 years old, she asked me if I knew Abe Lincoln.
I told her that he had been dead a couple of years when I was born ;)

I'm actually pretty proud that my knees are still in good shape - many of my peers have had problems - aside from family, knee problems drag people from the sport.

Why should we let logic and common sense get in the way of having fun? :dunce:

Ok, ok. Logic=scaredy pants. I have serious mental issues in the trees. I know I can turn through them, but I tend to start thinking of the what ifs.
