To date, Vail has not sold off a single property of the 17-formerly-Peak Resort ski areas.

You do realize that if they did sell off an area, it would spook investors and the hit to the stock price would likely be greater than the proceeds from the sale of that area yes? There's a group of private investors willing to buy Wildcat and Vail is interested in selling the area. That isn't because it's a cash cow.

I suggest that their plan is not to dig a hole for themselves by taking on excessive debt, by doing too much, too soon - like ASC did.

Excessive debt would be mostly caused by excessive capital expenditures. I think most folks see Vail not cheaping out on new toys and are happy with their efforts there. They cheap out on operations in many places though. That is what is annoying people. Their operations suck at many places, especially for a company as wealthy as they are

There's a post over on K-Zone, with pics of the repair process, that their main feeder line from Woodward had a leak over in the area by where the $$$ town homes between Bear and Sunrise are, that required both some decent lead time to get enough of the 24" (I believe that's its diameter) and then get the plan of how to fix the leak as the section of pipe leaking was apparently in an inaccessible area under a bridge.

Additionally, the pump house down at Skye Base and where they draw additional water from the Ottaquechee River just across route 4, apparently still hasn't been fully repaired from the flooding back in June.

If that's the case, with the Woodward Pipe apparently finally fixed within the last week, they more than likely have been water limited this season to date

I've never seen the snowshed pond low on water this season (haven't kept an eye on the bear pond) so I don't believe lack of water has ever been the problem. Maybe they couldnt pump enough water up the hill but it hasn't really been cold enough for them to get to that problem.

There was a Killington podcast. Was an inside employee podcast so obviously pretty much for PR purposes but regardless was fun to listen to. Nothing since September tho

And those cash cow southcentral PA resorts will not be reopening this weekend. Even with a predicted snowfall event. They lost too much snow and tonight while getting down into the low 20s wont be enough before temps rise with the incoming storm.

Roundtop was open for 4 days, Whitetail 3, and Liberty has yet to open... :( :(

I've used my epic pass 1 day this year. Indy and cannon I'm already ahead on. Hopefully it snows at some point I can actually ski wildcat/attitash but man when times are tough vail truly sucks in the mwv. It's embarrassing how bad they suck. Local people work too hard to have Broomfield skimp.

surely there is an eastern regional VP that has to at least see this shit show and wonder WTF, right?

I know we'd like to think they really don't care, but at the end of the day Vail is in the business of making money and the poor operations at these places in NH are costing them money...

Neighbor just stated that 1/2 the new snowmakers for Cat/Tash walked out yesterday....

Not surprised from what I've heard re: the new GM's lack of knowledge, except for F&B issues

Ridiculous.....
Dude, that’s huge news, now’s not the time for snowmakers to quit.

I mean it's pretty much still one run off wildcat and add upper pole cat. That's it. I went back before the rain and it was excellent but sadly the epic pass for those areas is really a secondary pass only for when the times are good. At waterville today and only wish wildcat was taken care of this well.

Is it true Vail is short on snowmakers so they split their time at both Attitash and Wildcat? The worst performing mountains in New England just lost half of their snowmakers? I assume the experienced Mountain Ops crew oversee what the rookies are doing but now they will have to man the trenches. Some corporations intentionally engineer staff shortages because fewer staff = lower wage cost = more profits and bonuses for the suits. The suits make 1 person do 2 people's jobs. Since skier satisfaction is not on Vail's radar in WMV, this could be the explanation. Or it just may be incompetence.

Since they already have the pass money, I really don't think Vail cares if Wildcat makes money or not. either way it's basically a rounding error for them. I feel for the longtime loyal skiers and riders there.
