Anyone else ever skied it?

I have.

I had a pass at K-Mart, but decided to stop early and get in some runs on the way there. I knew if I went straight to K-Mart, the day would be almost over.

Had a good time. :) Skied the whole mountain.

Everyone there was happy to see me. :)

That actually was my question...who has skied there? It looks like the backside offers some nice glade and old New England style terrain while the front is steep and in your face. Nice little place.

Whoa

This photo is pretty intense...got to get a cup to drool in:

The pic of the lift shows a pretty good crowd. Hoping that it does reopen with as much interest.

This looks pretty tasty as well:

looks pretty steep for a little mountain... whats the vertical???

I think it is similar to Pats Peak having about 600 vert. Similarly, some steep face slopes.

pats peak is 600... doesnt look it, never been there but after looking at your pics i thought it was more like 300-400

Yeah, as I said...Whaleback is similar to Pats in size...relatively speaking. Yep, Pats has 710 vert. Doesn't look it from this angle since this was taken on the top deck of the lodge (still about 20-35 vert below this).

That pic came out really well...it is a nice little place to ski...very friendly and cute. I'm gonna miss this view, but off to bigger mountains again.

Whaleback's vert is 700. It's heads and shoulders a better skiing mountain than Pat's--in my opinion.

NO RUNOUT

(not to mention no crowds)

But then again, it's closed.

Thanks to Joshua B's posting in the NELSAP forum, I was led to THIS article in today's Valley News about Whaleback's future...i.e. it's plans to REOPEN in December of this year!!!

Any plans for an AZ outing? :D

TB if I'm driving... I would prefer to a go a little further North for an outing. Some bigger areas a little further North I believe. This is a cool little place. They use to have a good nightly race series when I was younger. Can't get any closer to the highway. This has to be TB's week night hang out. I can see the 2 page weekly trail reports.

i am definitely down for an AZ outting. it has been on my backcountry hit list now for two seasons but i never got over there. as much as i appreciate hearing the news of its rebirth, i am sad i missed the chance to ski whaleback while it sat dormant. from what i hear, the mountain skis bigger than it looks and has some nice glades. i'll be down for a trip when ever central western NH gets a dump :D

Sources say that the sale of the mountain has gone through. Plans have been scaled back a bit, but heck, it's reopening

Update: drove by Whaleback yesterday afternoon on our way to see some friends in Andover, NH and there was some activity at the mountain. A couple of vehicles and people clearly moving stuff in or out of the lodge. Lower slopes were in the process of being mowed.
