For me, the only ski area that I've skied that's now on the NELSAP list is Brodie. How about you?

Hmmm... I vaguly remember answering this question... last night... ;)

The only area that I've actually skied is Mt Tom in MA. Went there a few times as a youngster.

only 3 that I can recall

Gilmore's Hill was just across the lake and over the rail road tracks from my house. I could put on my skis and ski from the lil hill in my back yard down to the lake then across the pond over the tracks and thru a small field and I was there for a couple of after school runs. This was in the late 60s, the rope tow didnt work so you had to earn your turns. The top had a fairly good pitch to it but the run was short and sweet. I think it would be classified as a Blue square at Sunday River.

Enchanted Mountain on a family vacation while I was in Jr High I think. dont recall much about it.

Starks Hill. I was on the ski team as a high school freshman. we had a meet there with the Fryburg Academy and several other schools.

Boston Hill in Andover Mass in 76 or 77, skiied it just one time while I was living close by.

Actually turned that site onto the little hill in Wilmington, MA. Screwed around on skis there a few times in the early 80s, well after it was closed.

Remember passing Whittier as a child and friends who had skied Watatic, but never skied either...

excluding areas that have closed then reopened and haystack which i count as temporarily suspended rather than 'lost':

mittersill
watatic
sea view
timberside

definitely looking to add a lot to that list!

I skied at Mt Tom in February 1998, just before they closed forever. I do not remember when I last skied at Brodie, but it was not too many years ago.

my lost ski areas are...

Hi(gh) Point - A 100 foot vertical bump on Long Island now a series of condos on a hill.

Grossinger Hotel - Liberty New York in the Catskill mountains a slightly bigger bump then High Point and even had two rope tows.

Damn I went through a lot of gloves when little!

Also, I do know I skied Brodie now closed. And until Whaleback reopens I am keeping it on my list. I am sure there are more but my brain has frozen for now.

lost areas reply

Timber Ridge in southern VT - very close to Magic Mountain

It was a small, one base lodge area, that was great to ski when Stratton, Bromely and Magic were too crowded. It had kind of a Mad River feel to it, because almost everyone knew everyone.

I last skied there in the 70s. At one point one of Magic Mountain's many owners operated it as Timberside at Magic, but I believe it has been closed since the mid 80's.

I drove through the area in 2000, the trail side homes are still there and occupied and the trails are still used for snowmobiles, but there are no lift towers remaining.

Welcome to the forums Corky. I hope to see more of you around. We're starting to get quite the MRV representation around here! :)

At a quick glance - Whaleback, King Ridge, Maple Valley and the Vermont Academy ski hill.

They actually have a write up of mine (Ryan McNamara) for the Vermont Academy Hill.

It's not necessarilly a 'lost' ski area. To the best of my knowledge the school still fires up the rope tow when conditions allow. It may be lost in the sense that it is not open to the public, but it does still operate.
