What will the best experience be for Feb 11th and 12th..one low intermediate skiier and one advanced. I'm driving from NYC so if Poconos will be just as good as VT this weekend I'd rather opt for the shorter drive.

Killington, Stowe, Catskills or Poconos? If it's poconos then where? Just got back from Alta, Utah so I'd rather not hit the ice!

Thanks!

I don't know about the Poconos but for New England, the farther north the better. Northern VT, NH and ME are your best bets. Everywhere else is pretty sub-par.

Jay Peak isn't too bad of a drive considering how far north it is. It's a strait shot up 91 and not far off the exit.

Sugarloaf is a pretty good mountain for improving your skills. Think they're expecting a little snow this weekend. Temps have been perfect....but don't bring your powder boards. For that you may have to look somewhere in the Green Mtns.

Sugarloaf would have to have dramatically better conditions than the rest of NY and New England for a low intermediate and advanced skier to make the 450 mile, 8+ hour trek from NYC for a weekend.

Go to Hunter. Spend less time in the car and more time on the hill (or the bar). Cold temps means they'll do as good a job blowing snow as anyone else. There's even a small chance for some natural stuff to fall.

Yea 8 hours is a way to go for a day and 1/2 of skiing. My Girlfriend is a lower intermediate. It looks like everywhere this weekend will be pretty much the same. I may opt for Stowe.

If you dont mind the drive, Stowe would be about your best bet. If you do mind the drive, the previous answer of Hunter is likely the correct answer (snowmaking).

Yea I think it's either Stowe or Hunter this weekend. Thanks for all the advice. One last question, is Hunter a definately better option than Elk or Blue at Poconos?

If you don't mind a daytime high of -6 on Sunday, then you'll have Stowe to yourselves.
Otherwise kinda far to drive for one day of skiing.

This might be the first time ever that Stowe and Hunter are in direct competition with each other for a single skier visit.

Either (or both) Windham or Belleayre would appeal to both the expert and the low intermediate, as they both have lots of blue cruisers and decent blacks. The grooming is very good so you won't have to worry about ice, at least before the afternoon. Both are an easy drive from NYC too. Hunter would appeal to the expert but I doubt the low intermediate skier would be comfortable there- the only blue off the top is Belt Parkway, which can get scary crowded.
The Emerson is within striking range of both and offers deals: http://www.emersonresort.com/accommodations/the-lodge/
In Pa. Elk and Blue are very nice, but the ride is just as far for you as to the 'Cats, and the 'Cats offer more.

How are the conditions at Belleayre? Probably hitting Plattekill but just want to know if these bumps are as good as the picture makes them look. The claim they have been dusting them each night. Hopefully they'll continue to.
