Cloudspin and Skyward in my opinion are good because they provide a lot of vertical at nice pitches, but IMO they don't have much character. I know others will strongly disagree.

I'm one who strongly disagrees. Upper Cloudspin is my favorite trail at WF or anywhere else in the east. Steep, true double fall line, snowfields, long then continue down Niagara or sharp left to Lower Sky and it's bumps, and maybe throw in a shot down Blazer's Bluff, short but the steepest trail at WF.

A trip to Whiteface would not be complete without a run through the Tenth Mtn. Division Glade, its on the map but tricky to find/get in to. Although they do need some snow I'd say there a safer bet then the slides.

Here's a pic looking up at the Approach enterance. Unless you knew it was there you'd ski right by it.

Most people get in lower from Northway where there is a trail sign.

SWEET pics can't wait to get back there. I seem to remeber some type of hut where someone had placed a crude sign offering Glade Dog's And Glade Beer's But all I could find were some emptys that someone must have used for some KIND of pipe?

I had you in particular in mind :) I like Cloudspin, but it's too wide for me too be overly crazy about it. I've only skied it a couple times though so next time I make it there I'll give another report.

I was referring to your tree skiing comment, you can't count on that especially with the way last season started out, and your moguls at mid mountain comment, they often decide to groom everything out, so you can't count on that either.

I don't want to get any hopes up especially when I don't know the time frame of their visit.

If we dont have it open there is not much of a chance that any of the other mountains will either. Well Jay probably will.

Damn, that's embarrassing, I didn't even know about that access.

Good idea to check it out again. I definitely prefer narrow trails, but Upper Cloudspin's double fall line and random bumps and pitches leads it to ski a lot more narrow than it looks. There are many, many lines down the Snowfields.

Also, note that the steep pitch about half-way down referred to as "Niagra" witnessed the fastest recorded speed for the men's Olympic downhill. I think the records still stands today.

Just down below that picture is drops into the steepest glades on the hill. Last summer I hiked down it. There is a big slab with moss growing over it. I always wondered when I skied it why I was able to edge on it.

Why have I put off visiting this place for so long??? There is no excuse. I'm making at least one trip up there this year and I have a feeling it will become my new favorite mt.

I don't know about that...Whiteface is good but it doesn't hold a candle to Stowe and Sugarbush in terms of terrain and snowfall..

You forgot to add, "In my (humble) opinion", because I, and a number of others I expect won't agree with your statement at all.

That is not correct but what ever floats you grilled cheese sandwich

Right. Based on the feedback in this thread, I think I'm going to like Whiteface less than the MRV ski areas though. I kinda prefer trails that are left a bit "wild". Not that I probably won't enjoy screaming down the steeps of Whiteface with HPD though...

Probably but may be not. Just make sure you come when the entire hill is open

As always, all of this stuff is subjective. I prefer Snowbird while my good friends prefer Aspen. Do I still have a great time skiing The Highlands, and hangin' in the fru-fru scene that is part of that town when I visit them, you bet. The thing that gets me is when somebody says, "I think oranges are the best, and you're out of your fruit eatin' mind to prefer apples!" Who cares; lots of tasty fruit out there, and everybody's gonna' like some of it more than others.
