I can't believe we don't have a thread for this yet. We probably do, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, place your bets! Who do you think will offer lift-serviced skiing first? Guess a date too.

Mount Snow, Vermont: November 1

My vote is Woodbury. But I won't be fooled again this year.

Just an FYI... They've already had some really cold snaps down in North Carolina!

As for the northeast. Boyen will decide which resort will open first - SR or SL. Mount Snow could follow shortly thereafter and Woodbury may open the rope tow soon after that.

I'll bet Sunday River opens first. With a fixed-grip lift and a midstation serving north-facing intermediate terrain, they have the ideal setup to blow some marketing snow.

Mount Snow certainly is likely to open early to promote their snowmaking improvements but Sunday River is farther north so I think they have a better shot.

I think the days of the competition to be the first are long gone with the increase in the cost of fuel to power marginal snowmaking.
