You caught some up and down conditions during your visit, but Sunday was a beauty and actually how April is a lot out here, including low-modest weekend crowds.
Yup, great trip, tons of variety for sure. Started with 2 days of powder at Snowbasin then Powder, also got about 3 powder runs at Sundance before spring kicked in. If not for the freeze up at Deer Valley it would have been just about perfect, certainly can't complain. Successfully hit 14 (if you count Canyons) areas in 12 days (along with an amusement park). Got to pick up 2 new areas, Cherry Peak and Woodward. Really enjoyed Cherry, it was much steeper than I pictured. Would have liked to ski there during the day so that we could have rode the 2nd upper lift that is closed for "night" skiing, but the surprise Sundance bonus day bumped Cherry to evening skiing after Beaver. Also got to check out a few expansions that were new to me. Most interesting was Nordic Valley where we had to walk up to the new terrain since the base lift was broken. Was also happy to ski the new section of Beaver, it opened about a week after I was last there.

Was not a fan of the 8 hour flight delay coming home. At least United gave us a free hotel room that we used for about 3 hours and $90 worth of food vouchers. Anyway, it's much better to get delayed on the way home then the way out, so it's all good.

is beaver worth a visit? it was in the back of my mind on my trip this year
It is to me. You taste tends to differ from mine though. It's a good size, but small compared to the other places out there. The first time i was there it was DEEP powder with not many people around. This time was a little more hectic with it being closing Saturday and a bunch of events going on. Lift lines were still minimal (2 min max) except to get to the Easter Egg hunt.

You really get around! Especially with two children in tow. Nice.

I’m calling it at 35 days. 5 new areas skied, which is a huge win, and mostly thanks to the Indy. Had 4 perfect sunny powder days in Utah, and made it back to the Quebec City areas for excellent spring skiing. Crushed it with perfect powder at Jay and Burke, and had a damn near magical spring day at Bolton (and stayed overnight for the full Hot Tub Time Machine experience 🤣). The last half of the season saved everything, I’ll give it a firm B+.

Magic still eludes me; their open days and conditions didn’t line up. I’ll make it a top priority next season.

I lost track of my days for the season, but ended somewhere in the 40-45 day range.

Areas visited:

Loon
Gunstock
McIntyre
Pat's
Waterville
Cannon
Bolton
Magic
Jay

Highlights:

Gunstock again worked perfectly for me and my kids. They did a phenomenal job with snowmaking and the seasonal programs were super beneficial for my kids. My son was in race Devo and advanced to coming just shy of a silver medal level. More importantly it advanced his overall abilities in all terrain types. He now is full of confidence skiing all terrain types and really wants to improve on his tree and mogul skiing. He rarely got intimidated by anything I took him down. My daughter started the season barely able to ski independently off the carpet and quickly advanced to being able to ski moderate blues off the summit. Both have become super passionate about the sport and want to ski every day they are not in school. We can now ski together as a family, which was my primary goal to start the season.

Pat's Race League was a total blast again. I made modest improvements in my racing skills and feel I'll only get better with each passing season. Racing has completely juiced my love for the sport again. Not that I ever lost it, but it presented a new skill I'm trying to get better at. Out team had a great time as a group and made the finals for the first time.

Most memorable days were a great packed powder day with friends at Cannon, my first time skiing off Gunstock summit with my daughter, a great day at Magic with my son and an absolutely glorious spring weekend with the family at Jay this past weekend to finish up.

Looking forward to next season. Already have February vacation week booked for Saddleback, Jay solar eclipse trip booked and looking forward to another season of racing at Pat's.

Sounds like a home run, especially with the kids.

A major reason why I'm still active in skiing as a geezer is because my adult son (and two of my daughters) are into it. There's a good chance that the time you're investing to teach them the skills and love of skiing will come back to you later in life in a most rewarding way!

I told myself I wasn't going to spend any more money or time driving in a car but here I am looking at hotels around Sugarloaf...

Well, I got no days in and finally have back surgery scheduled for May 19th. Will have a combination discectomy and fusion at the L1-L2 level.. That means all of the lumbar vertebra's will be fused including the L5-S1 interface. 3 months of no lifting twisting or bending, then 2 months of PT. Should be OK to ski by Thanksgiving.

I have plans to visit friends at Sunday River this weekend. SR Sat and Sun, Loaf Monday. Not looking great right now but we'll make the best of it. Might skip Monday altogether, unless they get a decent snowfall. Sunday looks like a short day but hoping the R holds off for a while. It seems to get pushed back a bit later as we get closer. Enjoy your trip if it happens.

Thank you. I broke down and got a room and tickets. At least I'll have the Bruins to listen to on the way up and back. Have fun this weekend
