Well, that's a wrap; today was Closing Day on 2023-2024. Probably the most days I've ever gotten in a season & I don't imagine I'll break that until I retire (God willing). Beautiful day followed by live bluegrass music & fun.

I guess that's it for me. I wrapped up my season last weekend with a day each at Sugarloaf (picture #1 above) and Sunday River. 38 days this year, mostly SR but a few at SL. Last year was a sabbatical-aided 55 days and I guess I have to wait five more years before I get to do that again.

My season started out terribly, especially with the December storm at SR, but it really redeemed itself this last month. The big late March and early April dumps were awesome and well timed for weekend warriors. Seeing the eclipse at Sugarloaf is something I'll never forget (picture #2 above). Count me as a happy Boyne customer - the NE Pass gives good options well into April (Sugarloaf had 100+ trails open last weekend!)

And now, time to ramp up the biking...

Logged Day 70 yesterday. Pretty sure I am done for the season as I have a bunch of family stuff the next few weekends.. And I am also feeling the urge to switch into golf mode for the next 7ish months

Sugarloaf looks great. I just bought my first day ticket of the season for Saturday. And on to closing day at SR on Sunday. Might be a wrap after this weekend, but Killington will probably be calling.

32 days. 4 new areas skied (all out west). Rain definitely did not help. I had a chance to hit Jay last week but I blew it. I’m done. Considering the weather, I had a good number of pow days (maybe 10) so won’t complain too much. Last day was the eclipse so that was cool.

Two great spring days. Skied 9-4:30 Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday. Couldn’t believe how warm it was Sunday when we got there. Season’s wrapping up but the plan is Sugarloaf this coming Sunday and fingers crossed 3 more at K after that.

Sugarloaf was perfect spring skiing in Saturday. Tons of stuff open, but you were penalized with a long walk out on open terrain if you ventured too far off the beaten path. Sunday River Sunday was interesting. Lightning delay, rain showers, and fog. Lots of fog. But the snow was good. Gondy Line was mint Saturday. I lost track of days...Screenshot_20240428-205216.pngScreenshot_20240428-205204.png

At 130 days so far, most Ive ever gotten. No regrets at all moving to Utah. Going to end around 140 after some Snowbird, Brighton and touring days. Overall an amazing season with some awesome powder days. Time to start fishing and hiking.

Closing day at Sugarloaf. Skied 9:30-2:30. What was open was a lot of fun with nice soft snow. Gondi was trail of the day with great bumps. Hayburner and Skidder to sidewinder also was fun. Gauge, Comp, Kings, and 3T were adventure skiing. Started raining just after noon and called it quits when it really came down and the wind picked up. Still a really fun day!

I think it's safe to say I'm done for the year. Was only able to make it out once after I got back from Europe. Was sick through much of February, and was busy during the snowy part of December. Still a total of 22 days on the season, but I'm disappointed I didn't get more of a spring in.

1) Wachusett, 11/30
2) Jiminy, 12/15
3) Catamount, 1/1
5) Berkshire East, 1/8
7) Berkshire East, 1/21
11) Magic, 2/4
13) Bromley, 2/25

Europe Trip, 3/7-3/14
16) Ski Arlberg, Austria (St. Anton West, Stuben, Zurs, Lech) - Run of the season: Piste #170, from the top of Zurs all the way down to Lech. 3000' vertical, much of it amazing ungroomed terrain in a remote part of the Arlberg complex. Wide open with soft bumps and leftover powder.
17) Ski Arlberg, Austria (St. Anton East, Zurs, Lech, Zug, Warth/Schrocken) - Warmer day - thick mashed potatoes down low, got above freezing at all but the highest elevations/northern exposures. Still good, but definitely stickier.
18) Ski Arlberg, Austria (St. Anton, St. Christoph, Rendl) - Icy in some areas but Rendl had fun runs and good conditions. Wish I made it over there more.
19) Arosa/Lenzerheide, Switzerland (Arosa, Lenzerheide, Valbella) - Thickest fog I've ever skied in, but great conditions above it.
20) Arosa/Lenzerheide, Switzerland (Arosa) - 6-10" of new snow overnight! Best day of the season, even if it was on the mellower terrain at Arosa with the connecting lift to Lenzerheide shut.

22) Waterville Valley, 3/29 - Sheet of ice up high. It is what it is. Still glad I got out there.

Also got plenty of nights in at Southington, Sundown, and Powder Ridge. Next season I'm already contemplating an Indy trip to Brundage and Tamarack if the price is right. Hopefully I won't get miserably sick through the heart of the season again.

Used to hit the Loaf every year. Dang, I miss it.
As much as I love the Ikon pass for variety, I hate the trade off of only getting 7 days to the Loaf now. I looked at Gold NE Pass + Ikon Base but it’s not worth it compared to Full Ikon + Indy base.

I'm up to day 67 after an excellent powder day at Snowbird on Seis de Mayo! 21" in the previous 24 hrs at the opening bell. Undoubtedly the deepest late spring powder day I've had in Utah in the last six years. (I skinned a few times in April/May 2020.) I'm down to my last few days in Utah before heading East for the off-season. I won't forget this last week. A bunch more snow is expected tonight and tomorrow could be better than today.

Here's a shot I took of the friend who got the above two photos of me (frame grabs off his go pro).

This is Hot Foot Gully, often bumped and tight, today it skied pretty easy.

Someone has pointed out that the random guy in black has some sort of snorkel thingy stuck to his helmet. I didn't even notice it at the time I took photo.
