So you are saying they should close the mountain when the snow is sticky? I've never heard of anyone doing that? Folks need to learn to ski a variety of conditions or be choosy in when they go ski.

when there is a sled coming down 20 minutes after opening and most stopped after 1 run there is an issue. If patrol checked the mountain before opening a note on the white board would have been nice.

They were blowing snow all day again today. Not as sticky as yesterday, but yard sales everywhere. BTW - Flyer was down until about 10 and then running slow.

Maintenance is lacking on lifts and equipment for sure.

The Hunter base webcam is very sad - unless skiing grass is your thing.......:cautious:
Shows them blowing a bunch of snow with snow making weather scheduled to continue through Fri AM.

Should be a pretty good day on Fri IMO, best one for a while. Maybe a little icy on Sat if they melt some Fri and freeze Fri night, and chance of heavy rain on Sunday is not promising.

sharing a FB comment today by a Hunter snowmaker - in response to Hunter again posting "Welcome to the snowmaking capital of the world" and some folks taking exception to the statement:

I want to say something about the last two posts about automation and powerful snow guns…….

By the way, thank you HUNTER MT SNOWMAKERS day crew and night crew. Great job for going out there and getting the job done.

Now…. Lesson 1... We have, I believe, 70-80 automated guns meaning we can turn them on from our shop and start making snow right away. Now automated guns need to be checked every run just like a Manual gun just to make sure it’s doin what u want it to do… so as for tonight, we only have 34 autos running give or take and we have about 150 -180 other Manual guns on. That means a snowmaker had to go there turn it on, adjust for winds and temperature, and has to go there 3-4 times a night to check these said guns.

So that’s 7 guys to check these guns all day and night, walking most nights 12-15 miles a night to make sure we are making the best product out there for everyone to enjoy. I wish we had 100 percent automated the mtn. Will still need the skilled snowmaker to runs all these things tho. Every night when we come in, my boss makes sure everything is maxed out running smooth and all guns are on that can be on. There’s times when we come in from our 2-3 hr run that we have to run right back out because winds change.

We have a great team this year and I’m blessed to work with all these men full time, year round!! (10+) men, two crews, one mtn Mother Nature is always against us men, but we go out there every day all day and get it done I wouldn’t work anywhere else.

(edited, names removed & thank a snowmaker)

Does Hunter really still call themselves the snowmaking capital of the world? That's some funny shit!

Also from today...

📢 We're stoked to announce a game-changing project: the automation of snowmaking on Belt Parkway, Clair's Way, and Way Out. And the plan is to bring it to life by next season! Automation is a lot more exciting than it seems: it means we can get more terrain open sooner, meaning more time on the slopes for all.

Here's an insider’s look into our plan that will make skiing and riding at Hunter better than ever:

➡️ Belt Parkway will have 70 existing guns updated to be automated. This upgrade will allow us to add 38 skiable acres to the mix early season during the holidays. But it's not just about more terrain; it's about crafting a diverse mix of terrain so all our guests can experience and enjoy the slopes from the very start of the season.

➡️ Clair's Way, your beloved trail, is getting a facelift! Automated low energy technology is replacing 36 high air consumption guns, which will help in dispersing skier traffic and add an extra 10 acres to the holiday footprint.

➡️ Way Out is getting 32 new automated guns installed. This means we’ll be able to connect Hunter North and Hunter West more directly and earlier in the season.

By investing in cutting-edge, energy-efficient technology, we're not just meeting weather demands but also setting a new standard for sustainability in the industry. Here's to an awesome start to an incredible season!

That is totally awesome about Claire's. More serious than they have been about West in a long time.

Setting my 5am alarm tomorrow to hit the freshly made snow before thaw, refreeze and rain.

I like Claire’s and all, but that’s one run. This upgrade to way out is either

1. Not well thought out.
2. A first step in revamping hunter west.

I would have to imagine number 2.

positioning themselves ahead of Sunday's weather, and the likely social media outrage when 3 trails are open for Xmas week.

How after 6 inches of natural and snowmaking do they have 1 less run open today than Sunday? Minya not open today. B lift was also not running so there were a ton of people of the belt that could not ski, again/yet/still.

Not shocked. Heavy rain before 6" snow could easily have damaged what they had open, and Minya/LXover was their least covered run.

6" on bare trails is not enough to open anything new though it is a good head start for snow making this week. I am hoping for more open with another night or two of snowmaking.

Are there really a ton of beginners there on a Tues 12/12?

There was this Tuesday. B lift was closed, and the Melor (sp) resort is full, so the boys were out in full force, same thing Sunday. They now advertise that they have ski rentals there on the sign out front I noticed.

the 6" was wet and heavy. Did not do much to add the base anywhere. Belt had large brown spots and rocks yesterday morning. un open trails just look like there was a dusting with the storm. Long way to go and more rain in the forcast, but cold temps are also in the forcast

If hunter wants beginners off the belt (who knows if they do, but it should be a priority) then they need to figure out how to build a long, mellow cruiser on the front side, or a better way to keep them on hunter easy.

Until then, the belt Will always be the “I went all the way to the top” trail that everyone flocks to. It’s to hunter as long John is to mount snow.

If they could figure a way to get approval for a trail that extends maybe past k27 and down to mossy brook, it would keep people on the main face. The topography is already there.

Sad to hear. At least they are reporting Minya open again today. But sounds like they won't get much significant added for the weekend. If so maybe do the trek to Stowe Fri night.

If you took all the ski and board toting obstacles off Belt it would ironically ski much more like a beginners trail.
