If you took all the ski and board toting obstacles off Belt it would ironically ski much more like a beginners trail.
It really is a beginner run but fractured with so many intersections, lined with fences and all kinds of hoop lah it’s just a total mess.

Hunter is one of if not thee most poorly planned and designed ski areas in the country. It’s seriously the worst location to put a ski area on. What a total shit show!

It was made worse with the north side. Now above it at the entrance of wayout and where the lift lets off and onto the belt is a SS for sure.

Today, and most days it was full of rocks and slick as can be. I have seen many videos of it since they did it

Planning Sat as my Day 5 - 4 here and one at Belleayre

As of noon today, none of those were open, but great news. I was told that mossy & madison would be open tomorrow and maybe white cloud and bleeker which would be great!!

Bottom of belt - from drop off enterance down was tough and trickey today which is unusual.

Get there early Saturday! and 2" of rain predicted Sunday & Monday.

All the runs discussed above are open today with great conditions all around - a little slick on Overlook.

Taking an early lunch as Flyer getting crowded with F lift not open due to staffing. But got 6 runs off Flyer from 920-1120 even skiing with others (so no singles line).

Can confirm the credit card surcharge is gone

flyer went down yesterday for about 1/2 hour. Down again now....F is closed so no way to get to the top of the mountain.

Going home to watch the almost 3 inches of rain come down.....

F was running by late morning, not that you particularly wanted to spend much time up on top with all the gusting cold pea-soup mist. If you didn't have a goggle wipe close by at all times above mid-station you were probably going to have a very unenjoyable day. As opposed to just a Type 2.5 fun day.
A day for lapping Overlook, practicing some drills off B or C, or getting on home.

JUst happened to check the mid station web cam and watched the groomer operator walk around the groomer with a sledge hammer and use it on the base. At 11:14pm he got in the cab and drove up mid station.

Has anyone been over to hunter north yet? The trail map shows ticket sales at the base area over there, but I don’t remember any buildings or anything.

I would love to be able to pick up a buddy pass over there with a friend rather than park at the main base area.

No buildings I recall seeing when I was there last couple weeks. They usually open that side later than main area too.

I believe there was a very small nondescript kiosk over there by the bridge from the parking lot - I'm thinking back to the one or two times I parked over there in Years 1-2 of the North being in operation. Think they sold lift tickets there, but I'm not sure what else they're set up to do - if it's even manned.

I remember that from the last few years I skied there. I was not open midweek, not sure about weekends. Also midweek they would sometimes close north at a random time. Had to duck a rope to get back to my truck on more the one occasion. Otherwise always my favorite place to park, especially if coming in from the west.

The closure of Overlook at 3:30 is an ongoing facepalm thing for me - and twice as much during the crowded holiday weekends. You have an area that can draw off some skier and car traffic, and you totally disincentivize people from using it. I'd park over there on a busy day, but I'm not cutting my day short or jumping a shuttle if I don't have to. And I shouldn't have to, there.
I've skied under the rope once and got a talking-to from the NE lifties - if patrol catches you they will suspend your pass for it. Doing their job, but it's just a bogus idea not to let people get back to that lot until 4.

Wait, so if you park over there, and you don’t get back by 330, how do you get back to your car? Walk?

In theory, sure - but that's a long walk!
More likely you find or make a friend with a car. Or there's a shuttle van that goes over there - at least there's supposed to be one. I think.
Or, Smiley's!

Thats pretty wild. You would think vail would want some sort of base facility over there to spread out the crowds.

you would think a lot of things, for example -

Why did I get stuck on the six pack for 30 minutes today? And then it was shut down??? BTW - no cookie of hot chocolate vouchers were given out....
