not competitive in skiing at all. I certainly dont want to embarass myself when skiing with new people but i dont worry about being better, worse or the equal.

Now when it comes to other sports, it can be a different story.

This statement is crap and says a bunch about you and your skiing.

I read it like this;

If you are good than you are competitive> like the "other sports" you mentioned.

I would deduct that you are a competitive person,

YOU JUST CAN'T COMPETE AT SKIING!

Lloyd I have to say I don't see your logic here. If you are not so good at say golf you can't possibly be competitive with someone who is good at it, but if you're playing golf with someone close to your ability then competition is possible.

I like it when Greg gets mad and starts flamin a little cause the thread can't get locked. However, is that really fair to those of us how get scolded when we do it......Hmmmmm? ;)

Fair? Probably not. But this is MY house, beeee-otch! ;) ;)

In all seriousness, I wouldn't call my posts flames - more like calling a spade a spade...

I find im competitive with everything i do, but not to the point to embarrass someone or get under their skin intentionally, unless of course they talk themself up alot, then i try to bury them.

Only with myself.
i.e. do 60 mins on the eliptical instead of 50, ski shorter turns down the run instead of long slow ones (as long as it's safe). I used to go skiing with a friend of mine and we did a gate race, lots of fun, but not my thing. Maybe because he beat me, the cheating !@!#$ :p

Totally agree with ya HPD, for instance if we got to play 9 holes with Tiger you would be thrilled to just tie him on 1 hole because u know going in you have no chance.. However if you were playing with a bogey golfer you would be up for beating he or she because their skill level is achievable to match.

I've skied with Pat and it's your deduction that's crap.. :???:

You are clearly calling his reasoning excrement, I think most would consider it flaming, which is fine with me cause I like seeing things spiced up when they don't get out of hand, but everyone when should get the benefit of the doubt with calling a spade a spade.

I like trash talkin with my friends. When one makes me eat my words I just laugh at myself. When I back it up I laugh at them. We laugh alot. I like laughing.

You don't want to watch me consistently three-putt, do you...?

My crap comments was in direct reply to his crap comment. But to make you feel better, I officially give myself a warning.... :)

And as a hypothetical, if one of the moderators at any point felt I crossed the line and locked a thread because of my post, I would support their decision, and certainly not reopen the thread. Just so you know.

So..........you want to hear my thoughts huh

I can't believe my boy AHM has not chimmed in on this competitive thing. My read on him is he's pretty dang competitive.

I actually usually start last. AHM's boots fit pretty tight and they get buckled up after I get off the lift. So, once that is done, I am ready to go. Also, in most off piste situations I either am the guinea pig or the sweeper. Usually the sweeper to pick up any "problems" that happen along the way.

I do not compete with my group of skiers. However, they compete with me and the group pecking order is very important to some of them. I could care less who is first, who looks good etc. Now, that said, if we are on an "interesting" run, I like to be in position to "watch" cus there is always some interesting stuff going on when Big, Nez, Kempfer and the bumper are chargin' the hill so it often is best to be sittin' at the bottom so you can scope the crews run down. Gotta watch nez when he hits that glacial part of FIS (lower center). And nothing like watching a couple of em get stymied on the exposed rocks on Black Diamond when it is thin and icy.

Bringing the A game with other skiers: To a point, but not really. My view is, my A game is always on, but I could care less how I am skiing. I am actually out there having a good time and unless it was one linked yard sale after another, I really don't care. If I get dusted great. I've skied with a lot of great skiers and so, you are going to get dusted out there.

I am really a sick *&^%$$# cus I like watching my buddies in tough situations. Like seeing Nez on a 50 degree pitch at KH and all of a sudden, due to too much arc in the ski, putting the Fritischi in the tele mode. This was very interesting to watch the recovery, especially in the narrow scoured rock lined coulior we were in. Or the time Big rag dolled down an avalanche (as in an avie slid this pitch full path to make the nice gully big was skiing down) gully OB at Fernie in a couple feet of pow. He rag dolled the same pitch in 2005 and I got to watch again: Fish bowl 2, Big 0.

So, HPD unfortunately I am probably not the rapid competitor that you have me pictured for.......................... but chances are regardless of where I start, I'll probably be at the bottom pretty close to first. That has less to do with competiveness and more to do with...........................I really never learned how to turn my skis, so I just go straight. That's the beauty of the fat ski, just ride em like a couch to the bottom...............I could go on and on here, but really if you're better great, if I am, I won't rub it in, and as I always say............it's all simply about the path to the Tav at the end of the day and if the "route" has been good the conversation and bevs will be even better.............................

Eloquent! But the real question is who the hell is Big, Nez, Kempfer and the bumper? And why aren't they posting here too?

Well i dont compete at skiing. I dont race, i dont enter any comps of any kind so just who or what would i be competing against? If i ski with 5 other people and they are all clearly better then me, should i go home at the end of the day feeling like i lost? Lost what? I ski to have fun, no other reason. I play baseball and softball to win. I play basketball to win. Beat the other team, score more points. I play cards to win. I'd like to be more competitive with my buddies at golf, but i admittedly stink. I cant think of anytime i went skiing and looked up at the end of the day and i was on the "losing" end of a score. So i think your statement is way off base. And as far as my skiing ability, who knows. I dont measure myself against others abilities. My only concern is feeling like i skied hard and had a good time.

Don't worry about it dude, U never disappoint.

Hey did you get my PM about those boots? I thought I'd get a reply back one way or the other. I know the size was a long shot, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
