Ha! Oh man. Post of the week. :beer:I'm lookin forward to Oils take on it. I figure between 300 and 500 words.
Oh i do the same im referring to that guy on the tee box that says he shoots 80 yet every other drive is in the woods, and 5 footers are gimmies, then hes like uhhh i hate these clubs.. Id be williing to bet any pro can break 75 with any of our clubs, i hate people that use that for an excuse.
Well i dont compete at skiing. I dont race, i dont enter any comps of any kind so just who or what would i be competing against? If i ski with 5 other people and they are all clearly better then me, should i go home at the end of the day feeling like i lost? Lost what? I ski to have fun, no other reason. I play baseball and softball to win. I play basketball to win. Beat the other team, score more points. I play cards to win. I'd like to be more competitive with my buddies at golf, but i admittedly stink. I cant think of anytime i went skiing and looked up at the end of the day and i was on the "losing" end of a score. So i think your statement is way off base. And as far as my skiing ability, who knows. I dont measure myself against others abilities. My only concern is feeling like i skied hard and had a good time.

To quote Ty Webb:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Judge Smails: Ty, what did you shoot today?
Ty Webb: Oh, Judge, I don't keep score.
Judge Smails: Then how do you measure yourself with other golfers?
Ty Webb: By height.
Well said Jim, being surrounded by superior talent whether it is skiing or something else usually brings out the best in yourself..
very true Chipboy (that is shorter than fritolayguy), but isn't it One's competitive nature that makes that statement correct.
I think being in sales has alot to do with it in my case too.
I'll answer for him...you bet it is!
I'm not sure when folks got timid about being competitive, but it's instinctive. It's part of the will to survive, part of our animal ancestral past. Compete or die.
Maybe it has something to do with how easy life has become for alot of folks. Too easy in my book.
You've got to get out there every day and challenge yourself in some way, even if it's just saying you're not going to yell and scream at the asshole who just cut you off on the way to work.

Me? I'm more like ctenidae. I don't compete at anything because there is no competition. I'm perfect. Everyone should know that by now.
If we were ever in the same place at the same time, it would be either the Second Coming or the End Times. Not sure which.
I would also like to take a moment to defend lloyd- based on the information he had, his deduction is good. His conclusion may be wrong, but his logic is solid. I'd agree- competition is a binary equation. Either you are or you aren't. Knowing when you can't compete is not, however, being non-competitive. Not even trying to improve when you know you're going to get beat is.
I think everyone who skis knows who skis better or worse than they do.
