No news yet on when they're going to start covering the mountain with snow, and with this weeks forecast, I don't think they'll be open before Thanksgiving.
*pout*
Skied there the day after Thanksgiving a few years ago...had a cold snap (daytime temps below freezing) the weekend prior and a little snow on T-day helped.Last year they didn't open until December. Has Crotched ever opened before Thanksgiving? I think it is unrealistic to expect Crotched to be open any earlier. If you have expectations that are larger than what a mountain will be able to deliver, then disappointment will be natural. Realistic expectations are in order.
The other good thing about Crotched early season is they have the capacity to bury the place in a hurry so there isn't much lag between opening day and mid-season form. I don't know if anyone keeps stats of snowmaking capacity per acre but I would bet Crotched would do well in that category (see tcharron's avatar).

I asked Lori at Pats Peak about extending their season in this year's challenge...her response in part was that before Christmas week they don't get that much business.look at Pat's Peak schedule, they know from years of experience that early December to end of March is a realistic expectation for this part of the state
Crotched made a good decision to hold off on the snow making until later this week ..
Hopefully this means that they will be open next Friday...Wooooooooot!
Crotched is going to be testing their new lines and the such sometime this week, with tentative plans to start blowing on Friday night or so!

Actually, I'm curious about what is going on at Sunapee...IIRC they usually open up on Thanksgiving weekend and I don't see any mention of snowmaking on their web site.:???:
Thanks for the info...:grin:Hammer, sunapee is not allowed to fire up the guns until the 15th due to water restrictions not like it matters because they cant really get a good start until the 16. it looks great from the 16th on out though thanksgiving could happen if they give it hell...wait hell is warm lets think cold!

Let's hope for plenty of cold after the next front leaves us...Snowmaking operations are scheduled to begin Thursday night, November 15 on Upper and Lower Blast Off, Skyway Ledges and Westside trails. Snowmaking will continue as temperatures permit. It is still too early to forecast an opening date.
