also, when it doesn't snow in the metro areas, the mountains tend to be less crowded.

I prefer that it dumps at the mountain when I can go, and in the cities when I can't.

as long as i can get into MA with out snow on 95 it makes the trip so much quicker. from MA to VT there isn't much in the way of traffic so if it snows its just you and the trucks.

I assume you mean 91?

If not... I think I can tell you a GREAT shortcut... :)

and I start just outside Boston when I head north... so if it's snowing here, I'm in traffic everywhere I go... Last year I had a 2+ hour commute home. Normally it is 19 minutes (16 mi)... but I know what you're saying. If I'm headed to SR, I'd be fine with no snow up to the exit off of the Maine Turnpike (which happened a couple times last year).

I figured. That's the way I'd go too... you just said 95... just giving you crap.

If you ever want a break driving, I suggest stopping in Northampton, check out Tunnel Bar... pretty sweet... for a bar in Western MA... probably not as cool as some of your places, but nifty.

while i dont thinks stopping to have a drink in the middle of the drive is the best idea. i played a a place in prague that looked alot like that except that it was like a maze. i love weird spaces and that place looks pretty cool.

They've got pretty good food too, so it wouldn't suck as a dinner stop.... I wasn't really advocating drinking in the middle of a long drive... but you could always bring a designated driver with you :).

True New Englanders don't live in major metropolitan areas (that includes me), are self-sufficient and hardy. I guess that's why I'm much more comfortable living up north (where I was born). A-yup. It snowed last night. Well, I'd better get up early to plow the driveway and allow more time to get to work. A-yup.

Very good point. I grew up in Western Mass...which isn't exactly a huge snow total area in New England. But I can remember back in the early 90's...when I was in highschool, taking out my buddies snowmobile before school on days we had a two hour delay. Here in CT, if there's enough snow to take out a snowmobile, there's no way in hell the kids are going to school. There's somewhat of a NY mentality down here when it snows. But being an optomist, I use it to my advantage. When everyone is huddled inside at night because we're gettting snow, I can take the ATV out and drive around the neighborhood.

Grilledsteeze....I remember those winters of the early 90's. We had some awesome snow totals back then.

personally i like it when it doesn't snow near the metro areas. this way i can get out to the mountains faster.

Living in the metro area, I like the snow near the metros as long as the hills get it. - It immobilizes the the metropolitan crowd and they can't get to the hills. I try to plan ahead and try to get there ahead of the storm. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose. It's damn near impossible to get ski buds to do the same, so I trudge up solo, but well worth it. No friends on a powder day? True, but often times not by choice!

I miss the winter of 1993-94..I was in 9th grade and it snowed 75 inches+ in the Lehigh Valley..and I had off school more than a dozen days...we seemed to get a snowstorm every Wednesday and Blue mountain the true mountain stayed open until April 10th..
..

93 - 94 was a great winter for sure. I remember 4 ft of snow up at our Pocono house and the hassel of shoveling it out. But let's be realistic. The ski areas in PA. don't need a ton of natural snow to be great. The snowmaking is so good down here that 10" is great. While I like seeing snow down here I generally root for it to dump snow up north.

10 inches is enough to ski the marquee route(under the 6-pack) at Blue,,I've done it on 4 inches lol..I want it to snow alot everywhere..I hope this winter is epic with major Blizzards as far south as Atlanta like the Blizzard of 93...

People around here are already bitching about the lack of an Indian summer this year..I want an endless winter

Agreed. My point was I like to see it dump on the areas that rely on natural snow.

I think we are do for a little warm before it gets colder. Hey last year on this date it was 87 in the NYC area. Better it be warm in October then later. Most of the areas I've seen have opening dates around Nov 15 or later so warmth now would not bother me.
