But I suppose even if they don't, if they can open Nov 9th with a crapolla of terrain, just as good.

Either way, it looks to me like they're going to be the first to open, regardless of whether you consider today "opening" or not.

Exactly. :-D Unless of course someone pulls a miracle out of their rears. The temps will be cold enough in places to get the fans going for at least 12 hours full blast for a few days

I get the impression at least that they fully intend on being open as temps allow. And starting tonight, they should be able to blow pretty much every night. I'm not so sure they won't be opening for more then just today.

But I suppose even if they don't, if they can open Nov 9th with a crapolla of terrain, just as good.

Their press release states that they intend to open for today only. They also say that they will continue to blow snow when they can and hope to open for the season on the 9th.

Does opening for one day and then closing for, most likely, over a week count as 'opening'?

Who do you consider it was that opened first last year? Killington and Wildcat with that freak October storm, I believe. I consider them the winners. Say a bunch of ski areas open mid-November, and then they are all forced to shut down due to warm weather. Do we start over with "first to open"? I don't think so. Same difference.

I don't think it is the same difference. When they open in Nov they expect to be open for the season, being forced to shut down at that point isn't the same as opening for one day with no intentions of staying open for the season, IMHO. I believe this same argument was brought up last year as well and really it doesn't matter for anything.

Like I said SR deserves big props for this, I don't want to take that away from them. I hope they get plenty of paying customers today!

I was just asking to see what everyone else thought, plus I was going to close the poll if the general consensus was that the race was over. ;)

Sr has its opening posted for Friday, but guns went back on at 3pm.I would not be surprised by a 2 or 3pm opening tomorrow. Last few years its been a late in the day opeing. The 31st was a 10.30 am opening.

Belleayre will wait until 5AM on Saturday to decide if they are open. Talk about suspense... Looks like it will be Lower Onteora with the (hopefully) rail park on Lower Wanatuska when they do open.

I still don't think Woodbury should count. It's just a small patch on an already small hill. If it was that important, Wachusett would throw a patch on Ollies and fire up the carpet and beat everyone, or Jiminy would open up Jiminy Cricket. I say the cake goes to Sunday River followed by Sugarloaf.
