Thanks for the vote of confidence Austin, I sure hope I'm the first. Speaking of:

I hate to sound off here because it'll sound like I'm bragging but, I just tuned and waxed my skis in the drive way, drank a beer, watched the sun go down. Superb, except I was sweating in the mondo-heat we have been recieving. Got some odd looks from the folks down the street. Now why you might ask on August 1st would I do something like that... Sorry to say but I leave Friday to go to Portillo, where they have had 20 ft or so in the past month, I am off the hook with excitment. Had to let it out somewhere. There will be pics and movies on my return!

H8 u die.

Actually, I'm glad you're going, and I think there have been a couple other AZer's that have been to Portillo (JimG?). I might have a business trip to Rio or Sao Paulo next summer and I might try to tie in a ski vacation with that. You'll have to let me know how it is.

Quality? You concerned about quality in late september or october?;-) And don't the vans just run up to the snowline once the first snow falls then you get on a snowcat? Also I wasn't really talking about the snowfields filling, just anything being skiable. Though the snowfields in October would be pretty sweet, I would be a little sketched out about avalances though. By the way, that is one pretty sick hike, for someone who goes up Tucks or GoS and does one run and calls it a day I think it might be too hard. ;-)
dude, i ain't hiking up 8 miles to ski frozen over cat tracks. help yourself, that is wasted effort in my book. there is a big difference between a six mile round trip for a nice hundred feet of snow in june/july vs. a 16 mile round trip slog to ski over frozen cat tracks. no thanks. i don't think hiker shuttles run after they stop going to the summit, so it would have to be hikable all the way since they don't let you park and hike from treeline.

My dad had a pair of ice skates tuned up in littleton or goveton, can't remember which town, but they were so bad he wasn't even able to skate at all. They tuned across the skate not down.:-o
probably lahouts if it was littleton. i tried them once, their ski tech was terrible. didn't write down instructions, called me up to verify because he forgot, and then still did something wrong.

I was already running a fever, but it spiked last night. WM's Storm arrived from Netflix yesterday.

You just have to think of it as a nice hike to view folliage and get to get a workout. Though you could always go up lions head if the snowline wasn't that low and if the snowline was low you could skin most of the auto road, and the auto is probably the perfect grade for skinning, i bet you could cruise. Or you could go up the west side which isn't as technical as lions head or Tucks if it is snowy.

No, not lahouts. We actually liked Lahouts. I think it was actually in goveton or whitefield, some very small town.

I "got the fever", especially after hiking the local hill last weekend...

That's cool that you guys do that with your kids. So far this summer I've been to WF, Jiminy, Hunter, and Windam. H&W same day. I find that for some reason it helps me get through the off season just being around ski areas. I'm not saying I stay there all day or anything, but I like to stop by when I'm in the area.
