How is Southern Vermont looking these days?

Is it worth the 4 hour trip from NJ for a couple of days skiing? Thinking about Thurs/Friday with my daughter. I have one of those free Stratton lift tickets that I think can be used this week (anyone know for sure?) and have not skied there in years. I know the rep that Stratton has here but its just the two of us for a couple of days. Scary looking at ANY VT mountain and seeing 9 inches of snow YTD on 12/26! They did receive 2 inches in the last 24 hours though!!!!!

Any better choices...Okemo/Bromley/Mount Snow perhaps? K is probably a better option but not sure I want to drive the extra hour each way.

How have crowds been this week?

Thanks.

Went skiing today at SB. Not many crowds. Killington is showing 50+ trails open, which is impressive. I don't know the quality of those trails, but we're supposed to have decent snowmaking weather, so who knows. In spite of all of our kvetching, the skiing is really not bad up here, albeit on limitted terrain.

I used my Stratton Free-bee last Thursday 12/21.

No crowds and lots of snowmaking, but what they did have open was actaully decent considering the cr@ppy year so far.

Cant speak to how they held up after this past weekends liguid madness though.

Best of luck.

Don't know about any other places, but I'd not risk it were I in your shoes and just go to K where at least you'll know you have options.

It's snowing up at Killington this morning (go to the website and check out the K-1 cam), and the forecast calls for flurries most of the week. Nighttime temps are good for snowmaking right now, so the next few days should be good, as K-Mart is pretty much the best snowmaking mountain in the east (I'm heading up tomorrow). HOWEVER, I would keep a close eye on the next system coming our way, as it's likely to be another rain event, with warm air aloft and moisture from the Gulf. But I don't think that's supposed to get here until the end of the weekend?

Thanks guys. Yeah the next storm is supposed to be here around NYE and be very mild...at least here in NW NJ. I think southern NE is slated for rain as well but that can change.

I think we may just wait until the alleged pattern change mid-January. The &@$# pattern change that was first predicted to occur around 12/15 then Xmas now mid January.

........

Better snow = better time....no matter how much more drive time..within reason....although I think most places north of Mass have been concentrating on just several trails in order to stay on top of them as much as they can....

i would wait personally... i have not been up to VT yet this year, so i really can't talk from experience... but from waht i have heard and seen (probably the same info as you) its not worth the drive yet. yes they may have 50 traisl open.. but the mountains have 200+ trails, so thats just about 25% which is nothing.

Hunter has the ebst snow making in the northeast, and normally i am not a huge promoter for Hunter, this year so far i will say that they have a great deal of snow (its all relative) and you will find about the same cinditions here and you will find another 150miles north...
once the cold weather returns for a few days and the mountainsa are able to blow snow tthen def shoot up there and make some turns on the bigger mountains!!

SKI ON!
