Some days can be really bad, especially if you have a season pass to Mtn Creek and do most of your skiing there. It can get frustrating with crowds, lack of good trails open, snowboarders, etc. But in the end, even on days like I just described, it's still skiing. And skiing is better than no skiing. And you realize that this time of yr when you are just dying to arc a turn anywhere.

"Core". I really hate that term. Can we make a pact to remove it from our skiing vocabulary?

Obviously, you arent core enough.

Whatever, posts like the one tyrolean made always make me laugh. Knock someone else down while pumping your own "internet" image up. Just words on a message board. Funny thing is, people who do that are usually writing checks their skills cant cash.

Enough summer, i'm gettin cranky.

 I will never be core enough. And I'm fine with that. I've been told I'm pretty steezey though... ;)

I hear ya on the chest thumping thing. I've never met any of the Internet big mouths in person so they've never had a chance to demo their skills in person. On the flip side, most of those that I have skied with, that can really rip, are pretty humble about their skills.

Funny how that works.

Yeah, like March 16, 2007 when we went to Gore Mt. and it was bulletproof and it wouldn't start snowing until 10 minutes after we started for home.

Wait a minute, we did go skiing that day.

Yeah . . . That was a rough day. I originally wanted to ski with you guys, but I had to work . . . kind of a good thing I did. I didn't really mss anything, and the next two days were excellent.

You guys should give Gore another chance, though. I'll definitely be in for showing you around this year, and I may even be able to get a few free tickets.

I've never met you but have been told that you are a very good skier. I don't claim to be the best skier out there because I'm definitely not but I have skied all day on days when Andy and his wife felt that it was not worth it. I was just stating the facts - not trying to put anybody down or bump myself up. Andy and V went up to Tuckerman's and hiked it and skied it. I admire that since I've never done that myself. Maybe some day I'll be able to do the same but for now I just have to admire those that are able to do it.

That's the day that I thought of when I first saw this topic. But you're right we did have fun that day anyway, luckily the short visit with the medics coincided with the power being out so we didn't really loose too much time skiing. ;)

BTW Jim, you didn't mention that not only was it snowing when we were leaving, but snowing HARD! That was a long trip home...

Dude, if you had fun that day...well all skiing is good skiing for you. Short of death or serious injury it’s hard to imagine a worse set of circumstances then those you experienced that day.

I think that one very important factor is the circumstances involved. I had one day of skiing during Christmas week where we basically took 1 run down Chute at Killington and called it quits. Now, we were in the Killington area for a that week, so it didn't bother me and my opinion was that it was still good because we were out and about. However, if I traveled 250 miles for the day and found these conditions, it would have sucked! (Well maybe not, I'd still consider it an adventure, but you get my point)

I guess it was a pretty crappy day, huh? Let's see:

  • We were treated with firm frozen granular and ice while the week leading up to our visit was sweet spring conditions.
  • All the really good stuff was roped and unskiable.
  • Brian faceplants on some death cookies and busts opens his lips.
  • Power grid failure resulting in 60 minute lift downtime so we were stranded at the base of the Top Ridge Triple.
  • Crappy soda. ;)
  • Within 30 minutes of leaving Gore, we drive into the St. Patty's storm and marvel at all the spin-outs on the Northway.
  • We all go home knowing the next day at Gore will likely be epic.
What a great day, indeed! I still had fun. Thanks again for the tour, HPD.

I forgot about the soda, and here I was feeling bad for Brian when I had to endure a funny tasting soft drink.

Likewise. Gore looked like it had a lot of interesting terrain. It was tough to not be able to ski it.

Gore is one of the places I really want to hit this year. It's only a 3 hour drive for me so that's day tripable for me. I'd love to be shown the goods by some locals. I hear the glades at Gore are real nice when there's good snow. Definitely want to check out those glades.

You would love it, I'm sure. They seem very proud of their glades there with each one marked with almost amusement park-like signage. The terrain under the lifts looks fantastic. I'll be back this season with better conditions for sure. Keep me in mind if you decide to go.

I'll admit that the conditions were pretty sucky, especially the death cookies. ;) I think I still had fun though, at least I look back fondly on the day so that's gotta mean something, right? Come to think of it maybe it did suck, I could have used that vacation day for a better day!

I guess the good company had a lot to do with enjoying the day. I guess if I had been by myself I would have split a lot earlier... like when I split my lip. ;) The ride home sucked, but the worst of all was knowing that the conditions were going to stellar the next day.

I'm definitely down for a re-visit this year with better conditions!

I actually like making high speed carves through death cookies..I've skied through death cookies so much that I'm used to it. Somedays I forget a piece of gear..I've forgotten ski poles and gloves before but luckily not my boots or skis..skiing gloveless on a cold day sucks. You can warm up your hands on the lifts in your pockets but they freeze on the run down. Lift closures due to wind suck..or high winds blowing right up the mountain..but you can always ski in a tuck to try to get under the wind. Two seasons ago I skied at Tanglewood (400 vert) for a race and the free skiing runs last like 20-30 seconds and were good for 4-5 big turns..followed by a long slow creaky wooden double chair. In a full day I skied maybe 10k of vert which I do in an hour+ at resorts with high speed lifts..It was still a fun ski day..Losing car keys or a wallet which I've never done would make for a bad ski day..
