Is there a mountain you wouldn't ski for free?

Is there a ski area you wouldn't ski if you where offered a free ticket? I probably wouldn't go to Kmart. If I didn't have a season pass somewhere else and had to buy a ticket each time, I probably would though.

HPD, why wouldn't you go to kmart if you don't mind me asking? i would most definitely ski kmart for free but would probably only do so on a weekday, maybe early season. the bigger factors for me are A) is it worth the drive and gas money and B) am i sacrificing going somewhere better that i would rather pay to ski. there are many mountains i would ski free, but most are not worth the drive even for a free ticket, especially since i have a season pass to a nearby good mountain and would also rather pay to ski several close mountains than drive south two hours to someplace inferior.

I'm quick to say Mountain Creek, but I can't say for sure if someone is dangling a free ticket in front of me.

Some of the most death defying and treacherous skiing that I have ever done has been at Mountain Creek. Way too many yahoos + not enough snow = disaster.

I'm not sure I'd ski Okemo on a busy Saturday for free. I'd have to drag my wife kicking and screaming. Only been there once but the crowds were far and away the worst I've experienced.

Mountain Creek
Camelback

With Mountain Creek, I had purchased the Triple Play pass and didn't bother using all the days.

I would not ski:

Mountain Creek
Shawnee
Campgaw
Alpine Mountain
Mount Peter
Thunder Ridge
Yagoo Valley

Again even for free

Loafer our first or second year of skiing, me and my wife went to Mount Peter and actually had a really good time there. Wouldn't go out of my way to go there now, but it wasn't too bad.

In my experiences there I've found it too crowded in liftlines and trails to enjoy myself a whole lot. I don't like the layout at all either. I was there with a bunch of people for a long weekend when they got alot of snow, but the crowds skied it off by mid to late morning. It's just not my mug of beer.

I actualy had a free ticket to okemo last year but i gave it away to somebody on this board because i couldnt imagine using it. Thats not to say i wouldnt ever go back to okemo but i with an asc pass i couldnt see myself chosing okemo over kmart.

Other than that i couldnt see myself driving south of massachusetts to ski unless i was there for another reason.

Keystone Colorado...............I've been once and would never go again!

We have a trip booked there next February. For families like mine, you can't beat it and they have a huge night skiing complex. I really like North Peak and The Outback and the food at Der Fondue Chessel and The Alpenglow Stube is outrageously good.

The main mountain is like an Okemo. We only plan to ski there one day but we have a car and will travel to Vail/Beaver Creek etc.

I was not thrilled with Loveland and have only skied it once. I am not sure I would go back except to ski it with my son.

ya i thought there might be another shawnee somewhere. If u want to try it i would recomend midweek or at night as the lift lines get real long on saturdays. its great for after school/work (takes me 50minutes from portland). 4-9pm is 20 bucks i think. but its not really worth a special trip unless you are in the area.

Not for Free?

If it (any mountain that gave me a free ticket) was close enough I would ski it during a "no crowd" time period.

Der Fondue Schuessel was a joke. Trying to cook raw food on the end of a fork in light barely adequate to see your plate, is not my idea of "fine dining." Cheese/Chocolate Fondue apre ski on a deck is fine. Raw chicken, etc. in the dark is a NO NO for me.

There isn't anywhere I wouldn't ski for free, but only if I had the time, and if the distance wasn't too far would I be able. If time or distance was not an issue, I would ski anyplace for free. Even if it was a ski area with only 3 or 4 trails, it would still be a good chance to get some turns in and have fun. Also since I barely get out more than 10 or 15 times each season, I take anything I can get, especially if its free.
