Nice going, Andy! Good luck with the new job! You had mentioned 15 minutes west. I always assumed you worked in the city.

i predict this will change your life. also don't be scared of long days, they are much much more effecient than working the standard day. midweek ski days don't suck either.

Congrats on that schedule Andy!
I'm trying to push for a 4 day/10 hr day shift at my current IT job at least for the winter. The person I work with says he'd like the 4 day shift. We'll see. The greatest shift ever was when I worked Mon - Wed / Off Thurs-Sun every week at my old company. Every other Sunday overtime. God I miss that shift!!!!!!!! CA bought our company and ruined everything! Scumbags!:cry:

Yeah, CA brought out a company that I've been doing a lot of work with. Actually the product they purchased, my baby, I implemented it 6 years ago. CA took over and support is almost non existent. It took a lot of bitching on my part to finally get some support.

Funny thing, in my new position, I'll be supporting about 30 CA products :-? Not too bad though since the company I'll be working for is huge and when they say jump, CA says "How high"

The company I'm dealing a lot with that CA bought out is Aprisma, if that's the company you work for, PM me. Maybe I know you :)

Mmmm... Spectrum.

You familiar with it? I implemented it and have administered it for the past 6+ years. Guess what, I don't have a back up. You think I can train someone to step in and run it in 2 weeks? That plus coordination of our Disaster Recovery excercise in 2 months, + SMS, plus implementation of environmental monitoring devices in our remote corporate locations + Tivoli, etc..... Should be fun :)

I am somewhat familiar with it, have engineered some systems that need to plug into it for monitoring. Its a pretty nice product as fas as network monitoring systems go, although managing it in a distributed environment seems to be a bit complicated. The new java based UI is a pretty big improvement. probably not considered "new" any more, been a few years. :)

Good luck with the DR excercise... sounds like a few sleepless nights pre, during and post.

It is very complicated. As far as the java UI is concerned, what of the better ones out there. However it still does not have 100% functionality of the fat client. Full migration should happen by the next major release which is at leat a year away.

DR, no problem. That's scheduled at my present job for 10/2, I just handed in my notice and my last day is 8/24 :) . I've coordinated the test the last two years successfully, it has been one great experience being able to do something like that.

Doesn't everyone?

I didn't for my currrent job.. Did for my last..
I hate it.. So degrading..

Funny... The jobs I really like didn't require a drug test... The ones I hated did...

Think there's a lesson there...

You know what? Looking back at my career, your absolutely right! I never thought of that.
I was surprised I wasn't required to do so for this job (almost unheard of for this industry) and sure enough, it's gone rather well.

My union only allows any company I work for to test once. Every time my ID card expires though, they try to hit me up again. I just laugh and walk away. My "boss" once said that sometimes you have to do things you don't want to. My answer is also, "not in this case".
But hey...being an alcoholic is OK, right.Doesn't show up in a test and we all know how harmless alcohol is.
