Sine 4/9/23, I've skied Sunapee (now closed), Crotched (skinning), Okemo and Killington. I would agree with DrJeff and others that it has been one of the most consistently fantastic weeks of spring skiing in my memory..

If you come to SB and see a snowboarder smoking in the shadows at the edge of the parking lot wave hello.

Forgot a helmet and goggles at Saddleback a couple of weeks ago, and I went back up Monday to get them (and ski, of course). I almost bailed on the plan when it turned out that a coworker was headed up Saturday and offered to get them, but I already had blocked the day for it and ended up incredibly glad I stuck with the plan. Two pairs of skis, one for groomer zooming before lunch and one for the ungroomed stuff after, and all sorts of fun was there to be had.

I threw my stuff in the car in the hopes of sneaking out for 3-4 at Sunday River yesterday and pulled that off, and it's in the car again with my fingers crossed for today. Hopefully enough people have left by then that I can grab a decent parking spot, as I'm sure the Barker lot is full right now.

the upper pass lodge at magic are severe. they sent me a message saying no check ins after 8. i replied like 'c'mon guys', and they said 9 at the latest.

i get it that magic is closed for the season, but I've never stayed in a small motel that wasn't down to just slap the key in an envelope on the office door for me, or use a basic lockbox with a code situation. super unaccomodating shit for a ski area hotel that commonly has flatlanders arriving late on Friday. i get its now off season, but c'mon. gonna leave at 3:30, i should make it barring absurd traffic

Gonna head up to K saturday morning, ski Saturday afternoon, sleep somewhere and ski Sunday morning. If my wife comes we'll stay at an inn or hotel. She's making noises like she wants to not come. So If i'm solo I'm thinking about just sleeping in the back of my Highlander. I heard you can park and sleep at Skyship parking lot. I've never done this, ever, anywhere... except that one time we drove all night from Huntington Beach to Squaw Valley and arrived at 3AM and slept in the front seat of my Toyota Celica for a few hours in the parking lot. Thoughts? Or should I bite the bullet and grab a cheap motel like KTK.

that sounds so unpleasant to me. the closest i have come to doing that is once i intended to sleep til 3 am and drive to mad river, but i just wasn't falling asleep, so i drove at like 11 and got there at like 4:30 and went to bed in the back. it snowed like 6+ inches while i slept and i overslept and woke up at like 9:45 in the best parking spot, in a full parking lot, and had totally blown my first tracks on a powder day. whoops.

i finish skiing by 3 or 4. then maybe a drink and a bite. its dark at 730 pm. seems like a lot of time to just chill in your car. I'm not a big camping guy tho. i always find the $100 to be money well spent. a tv, a bed, a shower, wifi.

the prices in killington and rutland have steadily risen all week. i got the north star on sat for $135, and the upper pass at magic tonight for $85

sidenote - i am in particular need of a shower tonight. the water tower on my apartment building failed last night and half the building was evacuated and sent to hotels at 1:30 am. thankfully I'm on the right side of the building to not be fucked. many apartments are totally fucked. there are countless emergency clean up workers here right now. its a full court press to fix water damage. the elevators are out. power is out on the effected side. water is out in my apt. i brushed my teeth with le croix. i need to shit but am worried it wont go away when i try to flush.

Yeah I'll probably find a room. If I do the car thing I will bring a small guitar and a book on kindle for those dark hours post dinner and pre sleep...probably bring the same if I get a room.

i briefly took an interest in van conversions with cool sleeping arrangements, and i joined the 'ski the east car campers' facebook group, but eventually had to leave because the people mostly just struck me as cheap and dirty. get a room, wooks.

Looks like you can grab a bunk in a dorm here. For me it would be better than sleeping in my truck.

Yeah I saw that... not big on dorm rooms. I suppose a shared bathroom might be better than no bathroom?

I could stay with some guys I know at the Central NJ Ski club lodge for a little less.

Definitely keep an eye out as you near Magic for wild life!

I was coming home from a friend of mine's place who lives about 1/2 way between Magic and Mount Snow last night, and about 9PM walking down the middle of route 100, was a moose who was probably 7 or 8 feet tall.

Lots of bear sightings in the region too right now

Guess whoever is on charge didn't get it inspected yearly..which is illegal..or didn't listen to the report. I made mgt get a new tower after I inspected it..then had it inspected by Rosenwach...if it failed..they would have blamed me...lol.
Thing leaked like a sieve...

its a mill creek residential building. they're a pretty large rental apt company. i would think its all on the up and up, but who the fuck knows. first complaint or issue I've had since living in the building. but oooweee its a biggie. some people are like wildly totally fucked.

our cat LIVES for drinking from the tub faucet. he is confused and devastated and thinks we are just mean.
